Do You Really Know Where Your Child Is?

While I was preparing our dinner last night a knock came on the screen door. Little Miss was delighted to see one of the kid that lives in the park. She said "oh did you come over to play?" Dadda quickly said that she couldn't play with the little girl. Hearing the conversation, I came to the door and told the little girl that I was sorry that they couldn't play together because of the Corona Virus, and asked her to go back home. Made me feel like a big meanie. I am not even sure that this little girl knew about the pandemic or about social distancing. She smiled and said, "Okay." and went home. Truly didn't surprise me that she showed up at our doorstep. She is a year older than Little Miss and has been showing up at our doorstep for over a 18 months now. Why the parent doesn't keep a closer eye on the little girl is a mystery to me. I do not leave Little Miss outside alone to play EVER!!! Normally it would be okay for the 2 of them to play together. But, in this sad time, it is not something that will be happening anytime soon.

It used to be that parents would keep an eye on their kids and the kids that they played with. That is when neighbors knew each other well, and it wasn't uncommon for the kids to go into their friends houses and play. Not like that anymore where we can't be sure who to trust.

I remember the first time this little girl showed up at our door. Surprised me. I asked her if her mother knew where she was. She said no. I told her that she needed to go back home and talk to her mother. She came back the next day and I allowed the girls to play together in the yard. Then suddenly, as quickly as she came, she said she was going home. She was only 4 at the time. Little Miss was not quite 3. I would never allow Little Miss to play outside without my supervision. How parents can think it is okay to do so in the day and age is beyond me.

@ElusiveButterfly Wow only 4! That's far too young to be wandering outside by yourself.

Sad to say but there are times that parents can`t monitor their kids everytime. Good thing little miss knows what to say to that poor little girl

Little Miss really wanted to play with this little girl. I had to tell her that we couldn't because of the virus. She then understood.

It is sad that some parents just let the little ones run free as soon as they can walk it seems. I think that children should be 'kept in the loop' as it were about what is going on in the world and community. Age-appropriate ofcourse.

Little Miss knows about the virus and even though she doesn't fully understand what it entails, she does understand that you can get very sick if you catch it.

If they open schools back up this fall, I am not going to send Little Miss back. I will homeschool her.

It would be tough to have to send the child home. As you say, the parents should keep more of an eye on her and not allow her to visit.

We have only allowed one visitor. She wears a mask and they play outside keeping a cow's distance between them.

When the child walked back home I stood on the doorstep to make sure she was safe on the side of the road.

I remember those commercials on tv and would joke to mom about if she knew where her kids were . Especially with all mine and my brothers friends calling her mom, too. But yeah that girls parents should be keeping a better eye on her, and hopefully she knows even a little about the virus.

I really don't think she truly understood about the virus. Not sure she understood about keeping her distance. Befuddles me.

@ElusiveButterfly some parents haven't told their kids much due to not wanting to frighten them. But like.. they should.

@Courtlynn they hear it on the news and little ears pick up a lot of information just by listening. It is best to hear it from their parents. But, keeping it simple so as not to scare them, but make them aware that it is serious. Just like crossing the street or stranger danger.

I agree with you. children must be kept safe as possible from the virus. Some people don't think a thing of going out without a mask and gloves. i think we should all be as safe as we can.

I carry hand sanitizer on me at all times. We use it often to keep our hands clean. I don't care if we are just out for a walk and pick up a rock or leaf, we wash our hands when we get back to the house. We wear our masks when we are near other people. Yesterday we had a formation fly over from the National Guard and the spot we chose to view it from quickly turned into a crowd. We left and drove to a spot where we were alone. Couldn't believe how many people that were there. Many were getting out of their cars to watch the fly over.

@RubyHawk people in our small town are oblivious to what the virus can do. They are fearless and do not observe proper social distancing. Yes, we have a low rate of infection, however, it can spread easily by just one person coming in contact with another. Our state is a local hot spot in the warmer months. I'll stay at home until it passes.

@ElusiveButterfly I carry sanitizer too and we wash hands and door knobs every time we go out and back in.. We only go out when it's necessary other than to the park which opened up a little more than a week ago. We wear masks there too. I missed walking in the parks more than anything, and I missed getting my own groceries too. So I do go in to buy groceries. I had one doctors visit by phone. I'm glad you and yours are doing well. I wonder if we will ever go back to normal.
