World Bee Day National Rescue Dog Day - should be every day 1873 - Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis receive a U.S. patent for blue jeans with copper rivets. 1891 - The first public display of Thomas Edison's prototype kinetoscope is held. The kinetoscope was designed for films to be viewed by one person at a time through a peephole viewer window. 1944 - Joe Cocker was born. He was an English singer and songwriter. He is remembered for his unique style and voice. He sang With a Little Help from my Friends at Woodstock in 1969. Two more of his hits: You Are So Beautiful and Up Where We Belong (a duet with Jennifer Warnes). He passed away in 2014. 1946 - Cher was born. She is an American singer, actress, TV personality and fashion designer. Her career has been long and varied. Here are a few of the highlights: She first gained recognition with the duo with Sonny Bono (Sonny & Cher) in 1965 with the release of their theme song I Got You Babe. In 1966 Cher simultaneously began her solo career with Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down). She divorced Sonny in 1975 and had a comeback with a disco album in 1979. She received critical acclaim for her acting career and won an Academy Award for Best Actress for Moonstruck. In 2008 she signed a $180 million deal for 3 years to appear at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
