Monkeys during Covid times

India
May 30, 2020 7:33am CST
In a city in India a group of monkeys attacked a laboratory technician who was taking blood samples for testing. The monkeys took away the sample kit and climbed onto a tree thinking it to be food. Inspite of best efforts the kit was not returned by the monkeys. The tests could be repeated but if the tests samples with the monkeys turn out to be positive then they can cause further infection which the locals fear. Monkeys are a menace in many cities across India and during COVID times it adds to their suffering. Have you witnessed monkey menace? How can monkey menace be controlled?

@jayanth_77 Yes, that much I know. My son went to the monkey forest in Indonesia, I think, and to Mexico, just to see them in the wild.

I read about this. We don't have this type of thing happening here that I know of. Not sure how it could be controlled.

Ok. You are lucky to not be troubled by the monkeys. They steal food from homes, damage things and create nuisance by jumping around and even injuring people

People feed monkeys which make them live close to human settlements. So as there are 100's of monkeys difficult to catch each of them.

@jayanth_77 Yes, they do. They should stay in the jungle where they belong, but I know that's easier said than done in some areas. They can be too curious for their own good.

@jayanth_77 I somewhat heard about this and I did wonder if it was true. Because you'd think that these samples would have been tightly secured as they are important. If it is true, I'm sorry that this happened because again, these are important.

the samples kit was destroyed by the monkeys thinking it to be a box containing food. The samples were recollected from people later.

I heard that too. But bro, there is something we are missing out. We humans are invading their habitats, their forests and making houses, factories and everything. So before blaming these animals for attacking us, we should stop invading their space. Let them live and have their own nature, no?

Yes you are right we humans are invading animal territory and so they come to human settlements in search of food and water

When I was a kid, Disney movies portrayed chimpanzees as adorable and members of the house. I think Disney eventually got in trouble for showing chimps like that cause chimps are actually dangerous and physically strong.

monkeys are of different kinds. Orangootans, Chimpanzees , babboons stay in the jungles but the monkeys that live very close to human and commonly found in India are Rhesus macaque monkeys as shown in photo .
