My Country - My Opinion

I’m going to talk about something that might offend some of you and you might not like it and I’m sorry if my opinion upsets you but this is my opinion based off my experiences. If you don’t like it you are free to stop reading at any time.
It’s all the talk now about inclusion, diversity and ending racism. We need to stop the division of our country. Acceptance of all people, the fair treatment of everyone. These are all things that you hear all the time yet we as a people keep doing things that in my opinion keep dividing us.
In my lifetime, I have not seen more division happening then right now. Look at politics as one example. There was a time when you could be on one side or the other and have different opinions and that was alright, rarely leading to violence or screaming matches but now you hear about that all the time. If your opinion is different then mine, I need to shut you down so that your opinion can not be heard.
Look at the race issue. We divide each other everyday by the way with talk and act. We can’t even try to understand another’s point of view because we are told we will never understand. As a white male in America I am told I am racist and I can never understand, I can not have sympathy or know what it is like to be a minority. That I am the problem and that my opinion doesn’t count.
What about gender? Is every female a male hating feminist? No certainly not, and does every male think he is superior because he is the male? Again, no. But yet we as a country try to paint this picture way to often. Again, in those certain situations my opinion doesn’t count and I shouldn’t give it cause I am a male.
When we stop people from having a voice is when we start dividing this country more than ever. Personally, I have sympathy for anyone who is mistreated by others for any reason. I do agree I can not know 100% what it is like to be another race or gender, just like you can’t know exactly what it is to be me. That doesn’t mean we can try to understand what each others point of view is. Or that we can’t have sympathy for each other.
I like to think we all are not that different. For the most part we want to be healthy and safe, we want a fair chance at things in life, we want to be treated with respect and we want to be successful at what ever we do in life. We want to be treated as equals and as human beings. I don’t think those things change based on race, gender or politics.

@Bensen32 I have to admit that this division in the US is very noticeable, probably because it's a big country, so it's easier to notice things ... aside from what the president is saying, raising the walls and so on

This is very well written. As Americans and as humans, we need to respect each other.

You made many great points!
One of my biggest pet peeves is when people use blanket statements when expressing their views. For example: "Cops abuse authority." To me, that indicates all cops. It would be better and more accurate to say
"Some cops abuse authority."
All women aren't the same, nor all men, nor all white people, etc.
People are individuals!
