Shocked by what's going on today in the US and the world

My mind can't understand why the death of George Floyd—and the way it happened—caused people in the US and all over the world to break into stores, steal the merchandise, damage property, set things on fire, spray paint bad things on business windows, be violent toward innocent people... And what message are these people sending by engaging in such criminal behavior? What do they plan to accomplish? I don't see anything great coming out of this.
New York City is now in curfew for the entire week from 8 pm - 5 am. And it's not for the purpose of preventing the spread of covid... It's because of what's going on now. What good does that do? There was a curfew last night from 11 pm - 5 am and it didn't stop mass numbers of people from doing the same thing they did when there was no curfew—being criminal. And nothing was done to stop this from happening. Not since this whole thing started.
And as an aside... I wouldn't be surprised if there is a huge spike in new covid cases now because of all these people banning together in huge numbers to act like hooligans and commit criminal acts.

As they say, it is maddening in the US cities where there are protests and riots. Maybe it is a side effect of the virus and the lockdown and the psychological effect of the fear for the future. The world is in dire straits now and worse is in the US.

It's scary living in NYC now. And seems the mayor is doing nothing to stop this. I guess the cops are told not to do anything and just stand there unless they are attacked.

@lovebuglena we call that maximum tolerance - the cops not doing anything. It is not good to intimidate the protesters for a riot might occur.

NYC is supposed to reopen June 8th. How can it reopen after what's happening. A lot of retail businesses are gonna suffer even more now.

There is no excuse whatever for the looting and burning. It's just ridiculous.

True. And those stealing Gucci or LV bags and merchandise are probably gonna try to resell them later on the street.

Very. That's why I try to stay away from news. Mostly negative stuff.

Covid-19 cases will surely explode in the next.few weeks. There are always lawless people who will steal if given a chance, sad.to say.
