We were supposedly way overcharged for blackberries

We went to the grocery store today and before leaving hubby asked me to check the receipt. I looked it over and saw nothing amiss. When we got home and started unpacking everything hubby told me he hoped the blackberries scanned at 79 cents each. That's why he got two. I looked at the receipt and told him they are $3.99 each. He was a bit upset and I can understand why. He never gets these berries at that price, especially two packs. And paying $3.99 per carton is more than $6 over what he would have paid for two at 79 cents each. He even told me that he asked me to look at the receipt and tell him if anything is wrong and I didn't. Well, I didn't see a sign anywhere in the store that those blackberries are 79 cents each. I only saw $3.99 and that's why I said nothing. Though I did find it a bit strange that he got two of them at that price and perhaps should have inquired about that. He should have told me the berries should be 79 cents each before we left the store or even before we started checking out. This way I could keep an eye on that and tell the cashier if it rings up differently. And that he didn't do. I hope that he accidentally looked at the wrong sign or that the sign next to the berries was for a different product or maybe a different brand. Otherwise, we've been way overcharged, which is disappointing. But nothing can be done about that now. Can't go back and demand money back.

I too sometimes overlooked on prices when I do my groceries. It is either the consumer's or the way how the sellers put the price labels that this kind of situation happens. From then on, lesson learned for me, I checked the pricing twice or more before I pay at the cashier.

Good idea to double check. I check when they scan stuff but sometimes they do things too fast and I can't catch everything or I don't notice something because have no glasses on. So I always look at the receipt afterwards to double check. And I make sure to do that before I leave the store.

@Shauibee What I also hate is that you start putting things on the conveyor belt but instead of waiting for you to be done they start scanning. And of course you are not by the register to check what they are doing. Mistakes can easily be made but you will not know about them until after you paid.

@lovebuglena Yes they are too fast. We want to get something of value worth for the money we pay. Every cents count, more so in this time of crisis.

It isn't a huge amount. Move on.

We paid $7.98 for two instead of $1.58 for two. That's a huge difference.

That is disgusting when you discover the error in the amount when you are at home already. I think that is a mistake in the bar code sticker. It may be another product that is charged for the blackberries.

@lovebuglena you are right, a lot of money wasted although as you said it is the regular price so you were not really shortchanged at all.

$3.99 is usually a regular price. I did not recall seeing a 79 cent sticker anywhere. Maybe it was a different brand he saw at that sale price. I don't know. But if they were supposedly to be 79 cents each and we paid $3.99 each that's a lot of money wasted that shouldn't have been.

@Alexandoy If it was on sale for 79 cents each then we were. Hubby claims he saw that sticker. I did not.

They cost that much here. Everything is rising in prices.

@lovebuglena All you can do is complain, buy them, or not buy them. Enjoy them.

@DianneN I don't mind once in a while paying $3.99 for blackberries (only hubs eats those) or raspberries as long as they are delicious and good quality. But you can't always know that until you open the box and try it.

If they were supposed to be $.79 you can certainly ask for your money back; but if the sign said $3.99, that's what they were.

He claims there was a sign that they were 79 cents each. I did not see one but then again I did not pay attention to berry prices as I wasn't looking for them. He hadn't eaten them yet. He better do so before they go back. It would suck to spend that much and have them spoil.
