We lit up some rubbish today

Unless you have a special permit, it is forbidden to light fires in the open in Western Australia between about October and late May. The actual date depends on weather conditions. We have several large piles of brush and timber down the paddock and today we decided to burn one of them. I’ve put a ‘before’ photo up the top and will do another ‘after’ photo when the fire is completely out. The bottom photo shows the roos deciding whether they should head for the bush or not. They were all round the area that we wanted to burn but once we lit the fire they all took to the bush. Regarding myLot, I’m not getting any emails of notifications. Is anyone else having trouble? I’ll wait a day or two then contact admin if it keeps happening – or not happening, in this case.

So, I guess that you did get a special permit then.

We waited till you didn't need a permit. We can burn now till about October.

We cannot light fires like that here at all. So many kangaroos . . . that is always amazing to me!

This is less than half. A lot had already made themselves scarce.

Most were sleeping in the sun so they would have been a bit put out at being disturbed.

You get emails of each notification you receive? Meaning, if you get 200 notifications, myLot will send you 200 emails?

@JudyEv I always start at the bottom and go through the oldest ones first, and then make my way up the list. That way I don't lose any of them if they drop off the notifications list after 7 days. And if new notifications come in while I'm on myLot, I'll try to also answer those as well because it's always nice interacting live with other members.

They send one email an hour so each morning there are usually 6 or 7 emails with maybe 6 to 12 notifications on each.

@moffittjc So then do you just go through one notification at a time till you get to where you left off last time?

We're not allowed to burn anything outside due to it being so dry here. I haven't noticed if I'm having email issues but I'll start watching out for it.

@Jessicalynnt They don't necessarily stick together but there can be 50 or more soaking up the sun.

There were probably that many again that had already 'left the scene', so to speak.

There is 2 or 3 years worth of brush there. The roos come and go between us and the bush.

The roos look quiet happy there. It's so strange to me that you have them near your home. I'm getting notifications.I'm reading discussions before I start answering notifications.

@JudyEv Good that your email is working. My email locked me out once and I thought I’d never get back on.

@JudyEv Good idea for them to go to the bush when you lit the fire. I didn't get any notifications today but before that got them.

Make sure you have your settings here at the site set for notifications. I don't like getting them would rather just come when I feel up to it. I love your roos

Instead of burning can't these dried grass and weeds be buried so they decompose naturally. This could be more environmental friendly than burning.

We have no way of burying these big heaps. And by cleaning them up, it makes it safer for us should there be a bushfire. But I agree, that in an ideal world, they'd be best left to decompose.
