An interesting definition of hypocrisy

I had a look this week at Fox News on YouTube - just to see the sort of thing that Donald Trump absorbs in vast quantities. It was quite revealing!
One commentator advanced the view that the anti-Trump brigade were being hypocritical in their reaction to Trump's recent excursion across Lafayette Square in order to stand in front of a church holding a Bible.
The man's argument was that, had Barack Obama been besieged in the White House by protestors from the Tea Party, and wanted to go to the same church that Trump did for the same purpose, his supporters would have praised him to the skies for bringing in the heavy mob to clear the Square and assault a few Australian journalists while so doing. Hence the hypocrisy.
Wow! I always thought that hypocrisy consisted of doing something yourself that you then criticize someone else for doing. It is surely not defined by what you might have done had the same circumstances arisen!
Indeed, had Barack Obama done the same as Donald Trump, I am sure that the reaction would have been even more extreme - on the grounds that the man had acted completely out of character and was probably due a long visit to the funny farm. Trump, however, was acting very much IN character - but the funny farm visit might also be in order!
So is that the best that Fox News can do - attacking opponents on the grounds of what they think they might have done even though there is not the slightest chance of it ever happening?

@hardtimes1958 How can you know everything that is going on without being told it? You might be able to see what is happening in your own small corner, but that is only what it is - one small corner.
When you have biased news media - which unfortunately is what you have in the US - you need to take all points of view on board and come to your own balanced judgment.
