I just played cop, and it was kind of fun!

I just finished a book called Catch and Kill by Ronan Farrow. It's basically about the sexual exploitation of women in the TV and film industries, and the lengths to which NBC, CBS, etc. will go to cover up the improprieties of their "money" people. I called my friend and former boss to discuss the book, and she told me (after about half-an-hour of conversation) that there was someone on the Iron Horse Trail (a bike path that runs by my house) who had been harassing women over the past few nights. The attacks had been happening at about 6 PM. I was in an angry mood after finishing that book, and decided to "go all cop" and see what I found. I hopped on my bike and headed South. When I got to the intersection where the attacks had allegedly occurred, I examined the photo of the guy, posted on several light poles near the intersection. And older (maybe 75) Indian woman came up beside me and asked whether it was safe to go beyond this place. I told her that I would go ahead of her and look for any suspicious activity. I did not see the guy in the photo, and stopped by the bridge that goes over Treat Boulevard, maybe 3/4 mi South of my house. When she arrived there, we nodded silently at each other, she went over the bridge, and I then rode slowly home. I have to admit that it was fun" to go out an play "police man" right after I had read a book about sexual exploitation in the media here. Have you ever enjoyed being the "protector"?

You played policeman? What, you ate a donut? I've only done protective services while on shore patrol duty.

It is a big risk to play cop when you are not prepared. The bad guy may be armed so you have to be careful.

I am a frail woman, the role of "protector" is not for me. I have been harassed, more than once, I have always been good at defending myself, even if sometimes I felt disgusted.

I am glad you are good at defending yourself, in spite of not being a large person.

You did a good thing and should be proud of yourself. The only time I was a protector was during the time I was raising my kids.

I'm very protective of the kids I work with (and Horse Jr., of course). It just happened to be 6 PM when I finished talking with my friend.

It's pretty common here in the US...in various ways.

And just what would you have done had you run into that guy?

I didn't have a cell phone with me, so I probably would have watched him and then found someone with a cell phone to call 911.

It's not my usual "role," except when I'm working with kids.

It is pretty disgusting what the big guys get away with. Glad you were able to help the lady.

It's incredible how many big money men have paid off people they sexually abused (or had illicit affairs with) to silence them. Even our "President" has done it.
