I finished reading Mary Poppins in the Park by P.L. Travers. This is the fourth book of the Mary Poppins book series. There are eight books in the book series. In this book, Mary Poppins tells the Banks' children and the park keeper a story about a goose girl and swine boy. They both wanted to be different people until a ragged man came and told them the dreams are different in reality than they thought. The ragged man though turns out to be angel. A china lion becomes real and goes looking for his best friend who was the traffic policeman. The lion and policeman happily walk off together and become statues again in the stuff Miss Andrew sends to the Banks. Michael Banks was sick and other children went out to play. He made three wishes on a cat star. He went a cat palace which had children as slaves. He answered the riddles and Mary Poppins helped him find his way back home. Three princes and an unicorn (yay unicorn) come to life out an old worn storybook. The three princes tell the Banks' children that they are the children in the story. The people in the park don’t remember the three princes and the unicorn. They want to lock up the unicorn. Then they remember, but then they forget again and wake up as they had falling asleep. Michael and Jane remember though. Jane makes a small park in the park. Her park comes alive and Mary Poppins and the children are in Jane's park. Mary Poppin's cousin is one of figurines Jane makes. Mary Poppins asks her cousin if he would fix the stroller's handle. He does. Then Mary Poppins and the children "grow" bigger and leave the park. In the last story, all the shadows leave the people (except Mary Poppin's shadow and Mrs. Curry's shadow) to have a Halloween Party in the park. They also celebrate Mary Poppin's birthday which is the day after Halloween (the same day as my aunt's). Then people of the Lane wake up to find out their shadow is gone and they come out to look for it. The Banks' children tell Mary Poppins about the party, but Mary Poppins refuses to say it is real. Then they say happy birthday to her and she smiles. I like this book. Now I'm reading After the Funeral by Agatha Christie.

I'm reading an 8 book series right now too and I am on book 7. I will be sad when it ends but atleast I can reread them later on if I want too. I have another series to start when this one is over. I've never heard of the Mary Poppins series though I will have to check it out.

Hmmm... I've never read any Mary Poppins' books although I do read fantasy on occasion. I'm glad you liked this book. Happy reading!
