What Motivates You?

This is my running partner Dakota. Well, the back of her anyway. She and I try to run together 2-3 times per week. Running is one of my favorite passions and one integral part of my overall fitness regimen. I love to run, always have. Dakota wore this pretty cool shirt the other day when we ran. It says: "I don't run to win races or to get places. I run to escape this world. I run to quiet my mind. I run to feel strong." Great motivational quote. But I don't need cute motivational quotes on the back of a t-shirt to inspire me to run. I already have other cute motivating factors! What motivates you to get moving, tackle a goal, or otherwise accomplish things?

I don't run, but I walk, do exercise videos, swim, bike, play tennis, golf, and do yoga because I love how it makes me feel. It's a habit I can't live without. I never to anything without first doing at least one of those every single day. I do it for me! My husband likes the benefits. lol

@DianneN I exercise at night. It's usually the only time of day I have time to run. So my girlfriend gets twice the benefit...once at night after I'm done running, and again the next morning when I wake up! haha

You have the right mindset and the right motivation! And your husband reaps the rewards! I always have what they call the "runners high" after I run. Just feeling really good, full of energy, endorphins pumping through my blood. My girlfriend likes the benefits as well.

@moffittjc I'm sure your girlfriend loves the benefits, too. lol I just feel great afterwards and have a lot of energy to carry me through the day. That's why I don't exercise at night. A stroll with hubs before or after dinner is all I do. And I sleep well.

I just do. No special motivation. If its there to be done I do it.

For most things, I don't need any special motivation. Some things I do. With running, I don't need special motivation, but it certainly doesn't hurt to have the motivation in the photo running in front of me! LOL

At my age, my main motivation is my remaining strength that I can still walk distances, I can still carry things and I can even climb the mango tree for harvesting the fruits.

If you can still climb the mango tree, then you're not old, and you don't need to worry about whether or not you are still fit and in shape.

@moffittjc that is what motivates me, I have to maintain my strength by doing exercise like 400 push ups every morning. Oops, that's a typo, 40 push ups only, waheehee.

I don't need the motivational quotes the girl has on her t-shirt. I don't feel that I have to escape the world. My mind is quiet. I feel strong enough, thank you. I pity the girl that she has these problems. I'm glad that I don't have them because it means that I don't have to run. I don't like to run, never have. I hated physical education at school!!

@MALUSE Haha, yes! Actually, Dakota (the girl in the photo) is friends with my girlfriend. They've known each other for a couple of years now. My girlfriend doesn't like to run, so Dakota stands in as my running partner. Dakota may be one of my motivations for running, but it's my girlfriend who reaps the benefits.

I was going to ask if she takes the lead but I've read your response to JimB o so I guess you tag along behind, panting - from the exercise, that is.

I make sure she takes the lead! That is the motivation that keeps me running! And yes, I am panting the whole way. My tongue hangs out like a dog! lol And just to clarify, Dakota is good friends with my girlfriend, so my gf knows that I go running with her!

@JudyEv I just want to be clear that I am a man of integrity, I would never do anything to jeopardize my relationship with my girlfriend. I'm very flirtatious, but I would never cross the line. I just want to be sure people are aware of that. I'm loyal to a fault sometimes.

I know if I don't get up and do things I will get lost in my thoughts, and that is not always a good place to be. I push myself.

I get lost in my thoughts when I'm running. That's a big reason I'm able to run as much and as far as I do without giving up. I just lose track of where I am because I'm lost in thought.

Walking and swimming are very good for you as well. I swim a lot (it's part of my job). It works out completely different muscles than those you use walking and running. By the way, the girl in the photo used to work for me as a lifeguard, and we would swim together as part of our training. Over time, it expanded into running, and now she is my running partner.

I don't run but I enjoy walking, it calms my nerves and makes me feel good. I've heard trees give off feel good chemicals and I believe it. I always come back more cheerful after my two mile walk.

@RubyHawk These days, with our sedentary lifestyles, any type of movement can be considered exercise. Movement is key to keeping the blood flowing and the muscles working!

Walking is very beneficial. I do a lot of walking at work. Sometimes, if I need to ponder a particularly stressful situation, or need to dwell on a big decision, I'll go for a walk. It really does help. I find that it clears the clutter out of my mind and helps me focus.

@moffittjc I don't actually walk much until I go for my walk but doing housework and so on is exercise too. I need to scrub my exercise ball and bring it in to sit on. It will keep you sitting straight.
