We’re home! This series of favorites with “home” in the title is ready to be put in the garage! And can you believe it, sitting atop of the list is a “big hit song”? See, I do know hits!
Here’s the winner and still champ-een.
#1: Take Me Home - Phil Collins
After a while in the 80s, it kinda got bothersome: you didn’t know if it was Phil Collins solo or Genesis the group. This is not from that time.
Those were the days, my friend. Phil Collins may have been the biggest act not named Michael Jackson in the 80s. He was scoring hit after hit with Genesis after he became the lead singer (trivia: former Genesis singer Peter Gabriel, who had a sizable 80s career himself, sings background on this song), and he was racking up #1 hits with a string of solo albums.
I read that this is one of the fan favorites from Collins’ career. I can understand that. It’s probably my favorite Collins solo song.
And that video? I love the hilarious ending: “You’ve been down at the pub, haven’t you?” (That’s actually Collins’ then-wife saying that.)
Perfect 80s pop/rock!
Thanks for reading.
