Me against the red army... of ants

It seems that the red army was winning yesterday so today I officially waged war against them. I am talking of the red ants that were entering our kitchen from time to time. I laid out the trap at 5:30 am but they came at 8:30 am. That shows they were intidmidated. When the procession of platoons became hundreds of them, I used the chalk to isolated them then I sprayed them with apple cider vinegar. Round one is over and the score is Alex - 870 vs Ants- 0.

Only 2.7 billion more ants until you get every last one of them in the nest! Should only take you 7.4 more years to complete the task! Oh, and then after that you have to search out and destroy the queen!

I think the queen is resting safely in the ceiling. That is the direction of the procession after getting the food. I also employed the toxic chalk which made it harder for them to move.

@moffittjc it is in the ceiling. They enter from outside with the food to the exterior ceiling. In the kitchen, the go up the ceiling. Those are 2 paths they tread, exterior and interior, with the ceiling as the end target.

@Alexandoy Do you think they are up in the ceiling, or do you just think that is the path of entry into your home that they found? We had a bad ant problem one time, and we thought they were coming from the ceiling as well. But when we traced their path, it turned out the nest was outside in the backyard, and they were climbing the outside wall of the house, entering through the roof, and then coming down from the ceiling into the kitchen which was at the front of the house. That was quite an amazing long journey for those ants to travel that far for food.

Red vinegar, is that apple cider vinegar? Me too I've got a small black not invading my home now. I have put ant bait poison by Combat, but they aren't stopping!

The black ants are not bothering us because it doesn't bite. What I don't want with the red ants is that they get our food and then they bite me.

@oahuwriter the vinegar kills the ants instantly. It is good because it is not toxic so no problem with the dogs.

@Alexandoy This ants bite too and want to climb on plates of food. I have to cover every bit of food. How does the vinegar work?

that is a great way to put that - hopefully 870 is a dent in their population. if they have millions, you are in for a long war.

@DocAndersen it is now 6 am here and no enemy in sight except for the black ants which is not involved in the war. The Red Army may be regrouping so I have to be prepared for a protracted war.

So you went with both the chalk and the apple cider vinegar. Good for you. Best that you find the colony and isolate it so they don't go marching in your kitchen anymore.

That hole is what I cannot find. My suspicion is that they have a colony up in the ceiling because sometimes that's where the ants are going with their loot.

Oh that is a fierce battle. One more option: keep turmeric powder at a place where ants visit. It would keep them away, though it is not as much recommended astrologically.

@Alexandoy If you have raw turmeric, you can make a paste out of it and use. And well, this means, India can try exporting some Turmeric powder to Philippines now!!
