Is America Great?

Is the United States of America (aka America) the greatest nation in the world and will she fall? I talked about this a little in my last post. Now I would like to give my opinion on this. As an American I grew up being told that we were the greatest nation in the world, and I believed it. I served my country in the Marine Corps because I believed it. We are the good guys doing good things all over the world, how could we not be the greatest. We are told all the time how great we are and as a kid you don’t really question it and some adults don’t question it. I mean look at all the people that come to America, they must be coming here for a reason, right? Military power: Rank #1 with the size, funding and advanced technology it is pretty universal that America is a superpower when it comes to its military. Education: Depending on the source you will find America somewhere between 3-8th place in the world. Economy: When it comes to a stable or growing economy, America is not even in the top 10. We could go on but believe me the USA is not at the top of many of those type lists. Besides, is this really what makes a nation great really? What about things like Freedom, Justice, Quality of life, to mention a few. Is that what makes a nation great? The USA ranked 15th in the Human Freedom Index in 2019. New Zealand took 1st. The USA ranked 18th in Justice according to the World Justice Project in 2016. Denmark took 1st. The USA ranked 15th in Quality of life according to Newsweek in 2019. Canada took 1st. Are these the things that make America great? Although, I know many people across the globe hate America and American’s there are many that flock here every year. Maybe it is the fact that when other countries get invaded, we are there for support, when there is a natural disaster, we are there for support. Even when countries have attacked us, after the long battle we supported them and helped them rebuild. Maybe we are not the greatest in many ways, maybe we need to improve in many ways, but I am proud to be an American. I am proud of many things my country has done and I hope we do better in the future. Will she fall? Many great nations (empires) have, so I guess only time will tell. I fear that the path that we are on here in 2020, yes we will.

I wonder the same things you wonder. I hope that we can undo the path we've been on and reunite, rather than divide, the Country.

Also hope for that same thing. I hate to say it but great battles are won by divide and conquer. Who is dividing this country and what are they trying to conquer? Hmmm, think about that.

I congratulate you that you have those feelings towards your country. I feel the same towards mine although I´m aware of the many problems we must solve.

I would think many feel the same about their county, being proud of who they are. We can hope and do what we can to make our country a better place.

Salute! From an old sailor. I think we’re in the process of watching America — or the constitutional America you and I served — die. We just watched the country give up rights when threatened not by invasion or bombing, but by a virus. We’re watching treason be applauded. I’m afraid that Trump’s re-election will turn his enemies into revolutionaries, where they attempt a Coup d'état. I hope and pray I’m wrong, but I believe we’re too fragmented now to recover.

Salute! Yes the country is far from what it was when I served. nation wide stay at home orders, mostly nation wide curfews, what is going on. I agree we might be to fragmented to recover. I don't want Biden but I don't know what will happen if Trump wins again. If Biden wins can the other side loss there sh!t like the dems did? I'm a little worried either way to be honest.

You know what? I do not care if my country is the greatest, until I feel well where I live, I feel that we are free and we treat people equally and we do not fear to be killed in the street. Honestly who cares if we are the greatest country in the world? I think it's time to stop imagine that a country could be the leader, finally all countries have problems.

@Bensen32 Do you mean Switzerland? I know that Switzerland is a great country, this is why we moved here. My country is Italy and it is surely not in the top 10, but we left Italy in 1975.

All good points, funny cause I did notice that of the 3, freedom, Justice and Quality your country was in the top 10 in all of them.

I know how hard this must have been to pen but you said well the things I would have wanted to say. America isn't the greatest at everything but I do believe America has huge huge potential. Yes, one day it will fall as they all do but I look to the heart and soul of great Americans for my measure. Thank you for your service. Let's all hold onto our values, our love and our hope.

I don't know what are the criteria for rating a nation great. I think it's politics that soil the greatness of a nation.
