What Am I Doing to People Named John Roberts?????

No, I'm not superstitious. But dang, what is it with me and people named John Roberts??? Now, you know that "John Roberts" is a pretty common name. In fact, Wikipedia lists a total of sixty eight different individuals with enough celebrity to warrant mentioning with that name. The US Supreme Court Chief Justice is named John Roberts, as is a well-known TV newsman. There's a John Roberts who does one of the voices on Bob's Burgers, as well as the physician who first defined what is now known as Roberts syndrome. I know two people named John Roberts. And they've both vanished. Most of you know "our" John Roberts. I know he doesn't take a computer or a tablet or even a smartphone with him when he goes on vacation, and he takes pretty extended vacations. (Last year his trip to my neck of the woods was interrupted by persistent severe weather, forcing him to return later in the year.) He left for parts unknown on May 20 and hasn't returned yet. However -- and this is where it gets weird -- I also play golf with a guy named John Roberts. In fact, our nickname for him is "Chief Justice." On June 11 I called him to let him know the weekly local tournaments were going to resume at long last. He returned my call (which, granted, is unusual for him), thanking me for letting him know, and telling me he'd see me later that evening at the course. He didn't show. That week or last week. That John has had health issues in the past, and I'm hoping and praying nothing serious has happened to him. Moral of this story: if your name is John Roberts, stay away from me! Calling John!
