Our native corn snack called Binatog

We have a snack made of corn kernels that is boiled in coconut milk. When cooked, it is mixed with grated coconut for more flavoring. Some people add salt before eating but I prefer sugar so it will be sweet. The snack is still available in a kiosk in some malls.

I miss eating binatog. There used to be a seller in our area but it's been a long time he stop selling. He added some condense milk also to the corn.

@Alexandoy Maybe it is not. Maybe that is a Tagalog kind of snack.

The coconut milk and the grated coconut give the corn a nice flavor.

that's an interesting sweet dish with corn and coconut milk. Can cows milk be used in place of coconut milk.

Maybe not milk because the coconut milk has a distinct taste when heated.

@SHOHANA it is easy to cook. Just remove the kernels from the cob and boil the kernels in coconut milk and that's it. Add sugar to eat or maybe salt depending on your choice. You can also add grated coconut.

It depends on how it is cooked. My advice is to cook the corn for 15 minutes only so it will be crunchy. But normally the corn is not crunchy but creamy.

@Alexandoy Never had it sounds like a terrific treat. With coconut milk just that one thing alone would be enough I suspect unless it is not sweet enough?

I like that binatog, the last time i ate that is two years back.was working in a company so our break time is 3 p.m,so ...that vendors know our timing, He will come with his cycle with cart and ringing his bell to let as know that he is around. But his binatog is with condensed milk,so sweet , sometimes cannot eat all..

I searched the photo from google
In our place one of the snack corn snacks is the "jasuke" acronym of "JAgung SUsu KEju". or "corn milk cheese". It is made of boiled corn kernels and mixed with cream milk and cheese.
