A puzzle piece that doesn't fit anywhere

I did a Thomas Kinkade jigsaw puzzle recently, from a 10-in-1 box, and there was a piece in there that I kept trying to use but it didn't fit anywhere. It was frustrating. In the end, it turned out it does not belong to that puzzle. Wonder why it was inside the plastic bag if it's not meant to be there.
I put that puzzle piece aside and each time I did a new jigsaw puzzle I hoped the piece belonged to one of them. I've done a few puzzles so far and that is not the case.
I remember the very first puzzle I did had a missing piece in it actually but from what I remember the shape of that piece is different from this one. Still, I might do that puzzle over to confirm if that's the missing piece or not.

Aw, that is annoying. A piece that does not belong to the puzzle will confuse you no end.

I hope this piece actually belongs to one of the puzzles in the box. But at the end of the day, I'd rather have an extra piece that doesn't belong anywhere than a missing piece. I have two puzzles that have a missing piece. One from each 10-in-1 boxes. I have not done my third 10-in-1 box. Wonder if that one has any missing pieces. Hopefully not.

@lovebuglena where do you buy the puzzle and what brand? It is exasperating to buy a puzzle only to find out that there is a missing piece. That is unfair.

@Alexandoy They are Thomas Kinkade puzzles by ceaco. I have three 10-in-1 boxes though I have a box with just one 1,000 piece puzzle. I bought them years ago from Amazon.

It seems to be pretty common to put a puzzle together and find that you are missing a piece, but it seems rather uncommon to find that you have an extra piece. Very odd!

I'd rather have an extra piece than a missing piece. That is for sure.

My sister did a jigsaw of a horse and there were duplicate pieces for one whole leg.

@lovebuglena Something went wrong at the factory I guess. I wonder if one puzzle went out with a leg missing.

@JudyEv That would be very frustrating.

It means you know the puzzle for you are able to notice that there's a missing piece of puzzles.

Well, knowing the puzzle or not, if there is an empty spot then a puzzle piece must be missing.

I don't know if it was a glitch but having an extra piece that doesn't belong to a puzzle is better than having a piece that you need be missing.
