In the middle of the night

It’s strange what comes to mind in the middle of the night. Things like why do we say we ‘dress’ a turkey? To me, this means killing and plucking it then removing the innards so it’s ready to cook. Surely it should be called ‘undressing’. And while we’re on the subject, have you ever roasted a turkey and forgotten to take out the plastic bag of gizzards, neck, etc from the body cavity? And another thing that I’ve never sorted out despite my advanced age. When we ‘draw’ the curtains, do we draw them together or draw them apart? I think it’s the former but I’m never sure. I told someone the other day I try not to end all my posts with a question but I’ll use one today. What world-shattering things occupy your mind in the middle of the night? The photo is of my nephew’s geese.

That's too funny, I'd never cooked a turkey so I never forgot to take the baggie out. You're right, it shouldn't be called dressing a turkey when one is removing all the feathers and innards .... but somehow calling it undressing a turkey just doesn't sound right. That whole draw thingy, I always wondered if they missed their crayons.

Oh my gosh @JudyEv I had no idea that knickers meant underwear or panties. Learned a bit more, didn't I

@rebelann What was your understanding of knickers if it wasn't underwear?

And then women's knickers were referred to as 'drawers' once upon a time, weren't they? I wonder how they got their name? lol

When we were buying a whole dressed chicken, yes, that happened one time that we forgot to remove the gizzard and liver that was wrapped in plastic. But that was when I was living in my parent's home. Now we do not buy a whole chicken, only parts particularly drumsticks.

If we ever buy a whole chicken we buy one that is already cooked. Otherwise we just buy the cuts we want.

Many times I end up the day with the most funny thoughts. Tonight I watch my bedroom devoid of clutter (everything is in the living room where I put it just in case the TV technician had COVID. The only thing I brought back are my pills, water and the last bottle of Jack Daniels Should I start throwing away things I don´t need now that they are not here? Will I ever throw any of those things?

I'm always worried thieves steal at my house. And I have to lock my door tightly every night before going to bed.

I usually start to worry about one of the girls if I can't sleep or my mom and the situation with my brother. When that happens I turn to prayers and hope that I can turn my mind off and get some sleep.

I start going over all the stupid things I've done and how I wish I'd done better or whatever. So then I start counting in French which focusses my mind away from sad thoughts.

Quite interesting to know that if we are supposed to draw the curtain, should it be closed or should it be taken apart? I think it could be used either way. In the middle of night I think why rice paper is not made up of rice.

All good sleep depriving questions. I never say dress a turkey. I never roasted a turkey without removing the bag of innards while washing the inside and outside thoroughly. And I had draperies custom made just so I could draw them closed. I fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. Stay awake and think up more of these. They are hilarious!

Yes, I have forgotten to take the bag out of the turkey before roasting it. I felt like an idiot. You mean I'm not? I think you pull them together, but it could be both. Thoughts that occupy my mind in the middle of the night, what my characters are up to in the book I'm working on.

Great photo. I try not to have any mind-boggling thoughts in the middle of the night. Too distracting. I've never left the gizzards in a chicken/turkey.

@judyev the most pressing quandary that troubles me late at night as I toss and turn is why I can’t get to sleep, and while restless I always start to wonder where my passport is, panic, and get up to look for it. It’s always where it always is.
