An older couple that was an inspiration to me.

When I was 19-years-old. I had a cool Summer job. I was a dishwasher at Many Glacier Hotel Glacier Hotel in Glacier National Park Montana. I became the "pot expert" (appropriate for me, I suppose), while other dishwashers worked the Hobart.
I forget if we got one or two days off per week, but on our days off, we would hike in the beautiful mountains of Glacier. One sunny day, I hiked up to Sexton Glacier with someone I didn't know well.
Several miles in from the trailhead, we came across an older couple, returning from the glacier. We exchanged pleasantries, and chatted for a few minutes. I guess them to have been in their early 70s, and they were in great shape. They also seemed truly happy--dare I call it serene.
When you're 19, you don't think much about being "older," but I remember saying to myself, "That's what I want to be like when I'm in my 70s." I have never forgotten about them, and I can almost recall their faces. I can recall the scene, and my thoughts at the time.
Can you think of random people (or teachers, etc.) who have been an inspiration to you, regardless of how long you knew them for? I can think of several others, including some of my teachers.

I wish I could think of some. Teachers were never encouraging; and I can't think of anyone in my life that inspired me. Sad, right?

@TheHorse I always had two people in my court. My two best friends. One now lives in Minnesota and one in London.

@LindaOHio Sounds good! Some of my truest friends are some of my oldest friends. But now that I think about it, some I met "along the way."

Catherine Marshall, a Christian author, had a huge affect on my life many years ago. Through her books and some letters, she helped me make some life changing decisions.

@TheHorse We exchanged a few letters. I loved her husband Peter Marshall's books and hers, also.

My fourth-grade teacher comes to mind. She was a wonderful woman who didn't pull punches. She was the law of the classroom and she was a very good teacher. I learned a lot that year. Especially math, and then fifth grade happened and I needed to learn 'new' math. Ugg. Anyway, she was wonderful.

Well some sportsperson like Sachin Tendulkar, Kapil Dev, Roger Federer.
Also, my class teacher from 6th to 8th(Middle department)was a big mentor for me. I progressed a lot under her mentorship, even coming first once in a Periodic test of 6 papers.
So did you hiked to glaciers in harsh winters as well?

Your post remind me of one lady during my solo trip
2years ago, I was working in one of the Northeastern states of India and decided to take solo trip to another district which is 400 km away from capital.. there I met one middle aged lady at bus stop, after purchasing fruits from her shop she force me to take more without asking payment telling me that I remind of her daughter, one who is studying in mainland India .. her good gesture will always remain in my heart

A person's attitude definitely can make an impression on you. My uncle had a great demeanor. Nothing ever really seemed to bother him. He lived simply but enjoyed his vacation time and retirement with his wife by buying a trailer and traveling to different parts of the U.S. I always thought that was the way to go...

Some of my retired, or semi-retired, music friends travel from bluegrass festival to bluegrass festival, playing and listening to music. One of my goals for down the road is to give piano and guitar lessons for a living. My hours, no real boss, etc.

@TheHorse That's an admirable goal. Combining something your passionate about into a way to earn income

That is the most memorable and beautiful to contemplate old couples still in love, still caring for each other, That is so comforting and inspiring to see the real not on screen proofs of true love existence. There are plenty of living examples, which I find inspiring role models. To name few, Audrey Hepburn, princess Diana, mylotter Coral
