Just more stuff ..... don't worry, you can drink while reading and listening, no laughs this time

A roadrunner in my elm tree 2018. I used a D3200 Nikon for this image.

It's so rare to see any wildlife here unless you're up before dawn or out and about at dusk. A lot of creatures of the desert hide most of the day so when I saw this roadrunner in an elm tree in my yard, I was thrilled I had my camera on hand. I'll bet you remember the song Harlum Shuffle but have you heard it by the original duo and writers that performed it first?

I'm glad you didn't spew anymore coffee, your wife probably won't think it's funny a second time.

Wow! I have never seen a roadrunner in person. A fine sight to see! We seem to have a lot of wildlife here. Thanks for the link. Never heard it before.

I hadn't either, they rarely come into populated areas so I assume it was a juvenile

All I know about them is that they live in in the desert of the south central southwestern US and in Mexico and can run really fast. They can also prey upon rattlesnakes due to their speed.@rebelann

Yes, they are perfectly adapted for desert living and is the state bird of New Mexico @DianneN I'm not sure if there are any in CA though, I'd have to research that.

It's the first time I got to see one up close, it was sitting right above me in my elm tree. Yeah, I liked it too. The Stones did a pretty good job with it too but this one is nice.

@rebelann Did it eventually "run" off? Do they fly (I suppose it had to to get up into the tree)? I know the Stones version, but I really do like this original!!

I let it be after I got my shots @much2say Speedy was busy watching Ally so I went indoors with her. Speedy was gone when I went back out to check.

I never saw a roadrunner except on the cartoon, it is beautiful. I liked the song too, though I actually never heard it before.

Before this youngster came to my yard I'd only seen them in the distance. I'll have to include the one the Rolling Stones did, it's pretty good too.

@rebelann It could well have been. We missed out on a lot of music for some years when we were first married.

They rarely come into areas where there are people @CarolDM plus their main food source is lizards which they chase through the desert, I've seen them running in the distance but never up close before.

The only wildlife I get to see during a hot summer day are birds and even they aren't as active when it's hot.

It's too hot for anything to do much. It's 108f with 10% humidity here, it's like an oven and way too dry, I want a little rain.
