Three bluebird babies in the backyard bluebird house are eleven days old today. They will fledge around day fourteen. Soon they will be gone.
I have been monitoring them every day. So far so good. The feathers seem to be coming in right on time. Their development seems normal so far.
Despite the heat, the parents have managed to feed them multiple times a day.
Will be sad when they leave, but I have enjoyed this journey from day one of the nest building. I hope for more nests and babies soon.
My bluebirds of happiness in Dustin's garden.

How cute! Look at those tiny little feathers coming in! Hard to believe that in just a few more days they'll be fledging!

@CarolDM Assuming they fully survive the trek to adulthood, will those three baby birds return to your yard next season to nest and breed? Or do they just go wherever?

@moffittjc Great question. I want to think they return. The problem is all of the bluebirds look alike. I never know from year to year if they are the same. I have jokingly said I wish I could band them like on Nat Geo, then I would know. But I have to believe some of them do return.

That's a great accomplishment of yours if they grow as a bird.

Every day that I see them grow my heart slows as I know the time is coming when they will fledge.
I get worried for their safety but I have to remind myself I have provided them a safe lace so far. More than they would have gotten in nature. And the parents stay with them for months until they learn to find food.
Funny thing is they come out of the house flying. Amazing how their instincts kick in, right! Some species do not know how to fly when they leave that is really scary to watch.
You are right about their size. It is a miracle to watch the process. I see why they are truly bluebirds of happiness.

@DocAndersen It is amazing to watch. And the parents have to feed through the opening of the house when they get this big. Hard to get inside.
