This is the penguin breed that the Sedgewick County Zoo has in their Penguin Cove. It is a mid sized penguin, and it lives in South America, so it can handle living in Kansas. The exhibit has rocks for them to climb on, and a wonderful pool where they can swim. This guy kept coming right up to the window while swimming to see what I was doing. Mostly the exhibit is glassed in, but there are also side areas that have chicken wire. I found it funny that some of the zoo visitors just barely came to the exhibit and decided that they stink too much. Animals smell. . . like animals. This exhibit may have had salt water as it did smell "oceanish" or it could be the fish they feed the penguins. There were also some kind of terns ( a bird) that were accommodated in Penguin Cove. This is one of the exhibits we visited at the zoo on Sunday.

We enjoy visiting at zoos. Moreso when they are not real busy.

Sometimes you can get a lot better view on television. We have been able to see all kinds of things on television that we would never experience otherwise.

Like people who buy property near the waste water plant, build a fancy house and then complain of the smell. Think, people, think!

We did spend quite a bit of time there. Like I said, this particular one was really interested in us. Some of the others looked like they were standing around talking to each other, like at a party or somewhat. The terns fought over algae they would fish out of the water.

@GardenGerty Some creatures seem as curious about us as we are about them.

It is wonderful that you saw the penguins at the zoo on Sunday. I guess the smell was the fish that they eat. I went sand boarding in New Zealand. I saw a black speck in the sea. It turned out to be a fairy penguin. I went to Kangaroo Island in Australia and saw fairy penguins there. There were yellow eyed penguins on the south island of New Zealand.

The fairy penguins are tiny, right? Neat to see them in their natural habitat. You are still a world traveler, I see.

@GardenGerty Yes, I agree the fairy penguins are tiny. It is wonderful to see them in the natural habitat. Yes, I am still very much a world traveler you see. Our trip in April though was cancelled due to the virus.

Funny, I never minded those fishy smells at the zoo. And the piers in San Francisco were some of my favorite places. Definitely fishy smelling. Anyhoo, the penguin is pretty. I haven't been to a zoo in a really long time.

Are there any zoos near you? I have been through Santa Fe. Yeah, I also did not mind the smell of the cattle on my grandparent's ranch.

@GardenGerty I don't even know lol. I haven't noticed any, and hadn't really thought of zoos since I've been here. I should look that up

We have several in Kansas. We bought ourselves a membership for Christmas last year. Since it closed for the quarantine for a while, they have extended our membership until next May.
