This little guy was so adorable. He stayed like this. Just blinking for a couple minutes. Making sure it was safe to come out. I know many people say woodchuck or groundhogs are pests. But come on... This face is adorable.. Don't you think?

@minx267 That's a great fallacy. We don't have bears or pumas or moose. Most Australians have never seen a live snake or a crocodile.

on the contrary, he was very shy and stayed in this position as I photographed him from my car. careful not to move... when he saw no signs of movement after a couple of minutes. he finally came out and started walking around and eating..

@Shavkat because they can get rather big. and they have rather big claws and teeth. they need to dig and chew all the time.

Yep, its still very popular here. Just a little different. How much wood would a woodchuck, chuck? If a woodchuck could chuck wood?. And you have to say it very fast. Lol

I'm not sure they would make great pets. they get fairly large. And can probably dig a large whole under any fence. they have strong claws. I do catch them grazing in the grass. I hear they eat up gardens pretty good too. So I'm sure feeding wouldn't be a problem.. but they are a VERY SHY creature- often they can see you at a long distance and they will RUN to their den/lair. hole in the ground.. and quick quickly at that.
