Bluebird Babies Are Sixteen Days Old

The three bluebird babies in my backyard house turned 16 days old today. They will be fledging any moment now. I have been watching every day, as you never know the exact moment or day.
The parents will slowly stop feeding as often to try and lure them out of the house. Can you imagine how scary it would be to make that first flight out of the house!
This morning I actually saw a beak peeking out. That will happen sometimes a few days before they fly. I am watching these babies as often as I can so I won't miss the moment they leave. And usually the runt (smaller one) will be the last to leave.
It is a miracle to see these babies leave the nest, about five feet off the ground, flying. The parents will stay with them for several weeks once they leave to teach them how to hunt for food and survive, hopefully.
Cannot get any more photos. If I open the door, they could leave too soon and not make it. But I did get this photo. Look at the baby peeking out. He/she is probably saying what the heck is outside that door. So exciting.

Wow, the babies have grown so big! I thought for a second that the bird in the photo was one of the parents!
I have always been amazed at how baby birds learn or know how to fly. How do they know to flap their wings? How do they know how hard to flap to keep them airborne, or how to turn and change directions? It always amazes me that they can do it successfully.

@CarolDM You said in your other post that your were going to take down the birdhouse after the bluebirds left. Do you just take it down until next season and then put it back up?

Yes, I have been watching all day with the binoculars. They will leave any times now. Excited and sad at the same time. It is all instinct. Other than that I have no idea. It is another miracle of nature I believe. Some birds have to learn after they leave the nest, now that is dangerous.

How cute! Maybe they plan on staying home and becoming a burden on their parents. Just kidding. :-)

Yes! I was so excited to see this brave baby take his first peek. A rare shot. And I now wait looking through my binoculars from the deck and my windows inside. I have to keep my distance so they don't fledge too soon. But any day now and they will be gone.
