Tropical Storm in the Gulf of Mexico has a new name, Hannah and has been upgraded to a hurricane. Hannah is on path to hit the coast of Texas and that means the Gulf Coast and states to the east of landfall will be getting lots of rain for the next couple of days.
The outer bands is already bringing rain as far as Pensacola, Florida. We had some rain last night and also again this morning. The rain this morning was a hard downpour that lasted about 15 minutes.
While I am glad that we are not in its direct path, I do not want to get all the rain. Especially for the State of Louisiana. There will be flooding.
For those of you in the southern states, are you getting rain yet from Hannah?

I had a sneaking suspicion that this storm was going to turn into a hurricane, even thought they kept saying it would only be a tropical storm. I guess they still haven't learned their lesson yet about how quickly storms can gain strength in the warm Gulf waters.

@moffittjc I think we have already gotten enough rain for the rest of the summer here. And to think so much more to come! Grrr...

@kareng And it seems that is pretty much what the weathermen were saying. "This one won't be a big deal, just a rainmaker." We know better. Any storm these days has the potential to flare up into a dangerous hurricane overnight.

Yep or goes further south! Don't need all this rain. Today has ended up being pretty here in S. MS. Was overcast and cloudy this morning but the afternoon showed blue skies and a nice cool breeze. If humidity wasn't so high, it would be perfect weather.

@DocAndersen Yes, that is where they expected it to make landfall. I am hoping that the next system out there that is supposed to bring rain for this week goes somewhere else or dissipates.

There is another smaller system behind it that will continue the rain after Sunday for us. And then news of another monster forming off the coast of Africa that will make its way toward the U.S.. Ok, so that is enough hurricanes/tropical depressions for this season. Let's try some calm weather!

We are not in the southern states; but I am concerned for those in those states and also for Hawaii. I know of at least one member in Hawaii that will be in the direct path of a current storm. Please stay safe!

Hope Hannah doesn't bring too much flooding and problems for anyone in it's path.
We've had enough to deal with this year without adding a hurricane to the mix.
