Isaiah passed through NYC causing a power outage in my area

We had stormy conditions in NYC yesterday. Very heavy winds and a downpour at one point. No thunderstorm though. A piece of siding broke off partially and was flapping around at a house across the street. I thought it was gonna totally come off and fly right into our window. Thankfully that didn't happen and it just curled and curved onto their roof. We also had a power outage where I live. My community was one of them. The first time the power went out was in the early afternoon and it came back on again within a few minutes but then soon after it went out again. This happened a few times until it was out for good. While the power was out I did not open the fridge so as not to let the warm air inside. And when hubby came home from work, he bought coolers and a huge bag of ice so we could put the stuff that can spoil (like dairy, eggs, fish, etc.) into them. After we did all that, we decided to go out to eat somewhere since we could not cook anything without electricity. On the way to eat we saw the power came back on, so we turned around and drove back home to see if we had power. If so, we'd stay home and cook something. Turned out we had power, so we unpacked everything from the coolers back to the fridge. But then we decided to still go out to eat. As soon as we drove off to the restaurant though the power went back out. I didn't really wanna drive around in search of a place to eat that had outdoor dining, as that was the only option, since no indoor dining allowed now. We went to our nearby Japanese restaurant to see if they had outdoor dining. They only had one table outside and we asked the lady if we could eat there. She said we could. When our food was ready it did not come to us in plates. It was packed for takeout, which is what we did not want. We ended up leaving and eating the food at home. I forgot to tell hubby to mention to them that they owed us $3 from our last order when we never got an order of sushi but were charged for it. However, they gave us a 10% discount because hubby paid in cash so we saved around $3 anyway. When we got home there was still no power. We ended up eating in the dark save for some round night lights hubby bought at the pharmacy that we put on the table. It was actually pretty cool. It was only some time after midnight that the power came back on and stayed that way for good. Hopefully, it will not go out again. The food inside the fridge seems to not have spoiled. At least what we we tried. Will taste the rest later.

You had quite the experience and adventure. You got a little taste of what we deal with in Florida pretty much every year. haha I'm glad your food in your fridge didn't spoil. That would have been horrible to lose all those refrigerated items.

@lovebuglena No offense taken. I wouldn't want to live in Florida either. I don't know why so many millions of people from up north move here. This is a miserable place to live except for maybe 2-3 months of the year.

I had a feeling that the siding flapping around from the house across the street would crash through our window. Lucky that it didn't. I would not want to deal with the damage. We got pretty lucky with the power restoration. After our area was restored majority of the city was still without power. No offence but I would not wanna live in Florida. I can do away with the heat/humidity and hurricanes and such. If I had to move out of NYC I'd choose somewhere with cooler weather and lots of snow.

The food should keep for quite a few hours if you don't open the door too often. But it's better to be safe than to risk food poisoning.

I hate when the power goes out. Your food should be fine. Glad you were able to get something to eat.

Thankfully, the food was fine. It also helped that it wasn't super hot weather and it wasn't that bad at home.

Storm with intermittent power disruptions is a nasty blow. How much those coolers cost? Though we don't have such prolonged power cuts here, those may come in handy.

One cooler was $45, the other $15. I wonder if they can be returned.
