Yum! I took my pills today, and I have my appetite back. I’m enjoying a relatively bland meal before I head to the course. I’m also enjoying some great music...that just happens to be 40 years old! Here’s another classic from 1980.
Do You Remember Rock ‘n’ Roll Radio? - Ramones
Ouch. It’s been over 25 years since I saw the Ramones live.
There was nothing really “new” about the Ramones’ sound (as Dale Watson said, they’re just rockabilly with louder guitars), but it was a new sound in the disco era. “We need a change and we need it now,” they proclaimed in this song, “‘cause lately it all sounds the same to me.”
Well, that was disco. Truth be told, it was a lot of punk, too. All music genres can suffer from that “formulaic” sound. It was pretty bad in the late 70s, so the Ramones harkened back to the days of rock and roll radio being exciting and fresh (“do you remember Jerry Lee?”).
All with Phil Spector’s “wall of sound” production. What a great tune.
Do You Remember Rock ‘n’ Roll Radio?
Written by Dee Dee Ramone, Johnny Ramone, and Joey Ramone
Recorded by the Ramones
From End of the Century, 1980

The Ramones are one of those groups that I've heard about but never really listened to their music. Not familiar with this one.
