Don't be a mask hole

Hi all,
So, in my state it is now a mandate that if you are in a public place you must wear a mask.
(You're allowed to take it off once seated at a restaurant). There are exceptions - if you have poor health and can't wear one (though if that is the case you maybe shouldn't be out and about during the pandemic, anyway) , if you have mental issue and can't wear one, if you are under 5 , - those are some of the stipulations.
From the outcry you would think they told people to cut off an arm or something.
A lot of people are making this political , but I just don't get it.
From my own person stance, just wear the thing. It's not that difficult.
Of course - that is only my viewpoint.
Anyway! I encourage people on either side to not be a mask hole. In other words - don't be the person who is screaming at the attendant at the doorway to the grocery store because you don't want to wear a mask and feel that it goes against your rights. Your argument isn't with them and they might even agree with you. They are just doing a job and they are considered essential.
Also! Don't be the opposite - granted, a lot of people I see out and about aren't wearing masks. I don't think all of them have a physical or mental reason for not wearing one. But some do and you can't tell by looking. So , also, don't be that person who is screaming at another person for not wearing a mask. You cannot tell by looking what they do or don't have as far as hindering them from wearing a mask.
This pandemic will go away eventually and it can be hard or not as hard depending on how people handle it.
Stay well all!

@just4him Thank goodness. I believe it isn't such a trend anymore, at least not as much as it was at one time

I don't blame you there. I don't understand the draggy saggy pants thing, myself. Not everyone wants to see your boxer shorts.

@FayeHazel We had a contractor show up at our front door without a mask on. He didn't even have one in his truck. I gave him one. He's not getting the job!!!!!!

I agree. I think there are some extenuating circumstances here and there, but I think that those are quite rare in actuality, unlike the.... I would say appx. 50 percent I see around here without mask in spite of the mandate.

@DianneN Wow you're kidding. The nerve. Now I understand that people are going to do what they're going to do in their private time, but that is downright unprofessional. I know mom had a chest freezer delivered last week - I had to ask the delivery guys to wear mask inside. They complied, so that was fine.... but I got the opinion that it wasn't standard practice.

The masks are annoying and hot, but I still wear it. Oklahoma mandated we all wear masks about two weeks ago. Our governor contracted corona virus so that may have influenced him. I hate seeing people yell at others for things they can't control. The guy at the grocery store doesn't want to tell anyone to wear anything. It's his freaking job. Speaking of grocery stores, I admit I almost scolded a woman going down the grocery aisle. Me and another shopper were going the correct way down the aisle, and here comes a woman and her teenage son, walking in the middle of the aisle, clearly going the wrong way they are supposed to be going. It was so rude! We know she saw the arrows indicating where to shop on each aisle. The guy in front of me was content to wait, but I wasn't. I let out a very loud excuse me, and prompted her to move. I had to keep my mouth shut on Wrong Way Wanda!

So true. I haven't been out in public much at all ... so only wear them for a few minutes here and there as being out dictates. But... worth the discomfort if it stops this thing or even helps .
Oh I don't blame you. I am so much of a conflict avoider but I admire those who speak out over the wrong way Wandas of the world

Oh wow. I wish people in my area would be so polite. Here is more like people screaming "you can't make me wear a mask"

The mask rule is pretty much the same here in the UK. Some people also choose not to wear one and there is even discussion over what type offers the best protection. Initially the official guidelines said any type of covering would do, including scarves and bandanas. That's bandanas, not bananas. Although I wouldn't be surprised to see someone wear one.
Now they suggest triple layer masks offer the best protection and scarves and the like are deemed pretty useless. Then there is the designer ones, where you can have an animal face on, or even your own. If I wasn't such a skinflint, I'd probably opt for one of those.

@FayeHazel A tiger face would be cool.
I live in the NE of England, which is a few hundred miles from Devon. Why, do you need something picking up?

@Orson_Kart Hehehehe I['ve had pasties before but have heard there is nothing like authentic ones.
I've heard it's Celtic in Cornwall as far as type of people, though unsure what makes them so.
Thanks! Cream scones sound lovely. I keep seeing pictures of that. Have yet to figure out what the actual little biscuit looking thing is like....

That's interesting, I was just reading an article about which kind of masks are best. Worst, according to what I saw was the "neck gaiter" style and not much better than that were bandanas and best were those N95 usually reserved for medical community. Somewhere in the middle were those blue disposable ones you see and the fabric ones.
Funny you mention. At the get go of this I wanted to get one of the pretty ones. But I thought I don't want to spend extra $$ on this, since it'll probably be over soon enough. Well. So much for that. So I actually got my mom and myself some fancy ones. I think you should too. A tiger face!
Hey, are you anywhere near Cornwall or Devon?

Actually a lot of people really look sexy wearing a mask---just say that and everyone will wear one!!
There is another rumor going around about what a mask does but you're too young for me to post it!!!

Very well stated! Many of the same thoughts I've had myself. If it helps to wear a mask and reduces the risk "wear one." A company on Amazon is even selling cool pull up masks that go around your neck like the golfers are wearing. So if your self-conscious buy one of those.
P.S. I've seen many in my state who don't wear a mask when walking in a public place like a boardwalk. Ok if you can keep your distance. But when you walk three across where does the other person go to avoid you when walking in the opposite direction. The teens and college students are the worst. I had to inform one you need a mask in a public rest room. His answer "I don't have one." Says it all don't it

Agree totally. And you're right, the cool looking masks make the process, well, at least sort of fun.
I agree with you on the outdoor stuff, too.
If you can keep your distance and not crowd others, then fine, but so many people seem to not know what 6 ft. is and don't seem to care about others not in their group.
We live in a very narcissistic culture. It's sad.

Well, it's not also nice shouting at people that don't wear mask, but if that's their job, it's just right for them to tell people follow the rules.
