A Quiet Saturday

Things are quiet here in CT this fine Saturday evening. Last night my Internet and cable went out at about 10 pm. It came back about 7:30 this morning. As is my Saturday routine I met my friend Irene for breakfast. Today was at her house and she made crepes. They were delicious. I brought over some Vermont maple syrup to have with them. we then played two games of Scrabble, one win each!! We are pretty well matched. Did I ever say how I met my friend Irene? It was in 1976 and I trained her to take over my payroll job when I was promoted to the head of the computer department. She was a young newlywed and I was a young mother. The company folded in 1978 but we vowed to remain friends and we have. Not only that, when I did her genealogy we are 7th cousins, so we have a blood tie. We are sisters of the heart we say. We have been through a lot with each other and our friendship has survived it all. She is a great cook and sent me home with a huge hunk of Jewish Coffeecake for Al and I to snack on, now that is a good friend !! lol

You're blessed to have a friend like that. Lucky for you that she happens to be a relative.

I am so happy that you have such a good friend. It's been 10 years since I've had a friend at all because we have moved so much.

It does make it hard when you move. I have always lived in the area of CT where I am now, not in the same town but only 7 miles away.

@BelleStarr It does make a difference. I do need to get involved in things and that would help meet people but can't do that right now because of covid-19.

That is so wonderful to have a close and good friend such as Irene. Not only to share in the good times together, but to lean on each other in the bad times as well. I'm glad your friendship has stood the test of time.

We made a real effort to keep in touch after we no longer worked together and it has gone well.

@BelleStarr Isn't that awesome that you were able to keep in touch? I still keep in touch with several of the crew I worked a part-time job at way back when I was in college. I am also still very close with my work "family" from my first job out of college.

lol Not as cool as you might think, since we are both French Canadian it was inevitable. We are related to all French Canadians I have literally over 1000 4th cousins or closer just on Ancestry. But I am very glad we are related.

At least everything went out at night and came back in the morning, instead of the middle of the day. It certainly is a blessing to have a true friend like that, I also have a friend like that.

It's nice to hear that you have such a long time friendship (or sisterhood). I'm sure Al was happy to get his coffeecake from Irene.

I had an aunt named Irene who was the first daughter after several boys and then several more sons before my aunt Mandy and mother (who granddad insisted on naming Lovene) were the end at number 11 and 12. We spent our summers growing up going to the farm Aunt Irene lived on (complete with a outhouse and good cold well water) or Aunt Mandy's Dairy who named their cows after the many nieces and nephews
