Two Color Granny

United States
August 10, 2020 10:04am CST
I finished my last stitch of the granny square pictured above (which needs to be blocked) when I realized something. The last corner was shaped like the top of a hexagon. Well, 'This isn't right.' I thought to myself and began to count each row again. Each row was correct, not a stitch missed. Then it dawned on me, I needed to complete two more slip stitches before tying off. I'm still learning, and practicing and getting over my doubts about my own talents when it comes to crochet. This is the first four row granny that I have completed and liked enough to keep. I'm posting this to show off my first two color granny, and also to say "just practice! Crocheting really is addicting." for those who want to learn.

It's a good job, I think that my grandmother would have loved those two colors together.

Purple is one of my favorite colors. I think the black and purple make it look vintage.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I never liked purple, so I really cannot say if it looks vintage or not, my mother also disliked she had nothing purple.

@LadyDuck My grandmother, aunt and I all liked purple. I also like the color turquoise, and some blues. Anything that is bright and cheerful. I also like greens.

Thank You. Ive made a few more and each one has looked better than the last. I love to crochet, I feel lost if I don't have yarn in my fingers atleast once each day. I hope you enjoy your day & that it is relatively cool.

@popciclecold If you ever do, Jaydainstitches is one of the best youtube tutorialists. I love watching her videos because she is so cheerful.

Youtube. I tried using a "I taught myself to crochet" kit many years ago, and I was lost. Youtube has helped me, though I've started reading patterns now too.

Oh I am. I'm nervous about blocking them all for the first time and then joining them together, but I'll figure it out.

That looks good. I was never good with crafts involving material though my grams tried lol.

My mom crocheted as I was growing up, but I never wanted to learn until I was older. I tried years ago and gave up, but youtube has helped me learn again.

@ScribbledAdNauseum My grandmother was the one that sewed and did the craft stuff. She did get me into latch hook though. That was easy and it as enjoyable until I just couldn't sit still anymore.

@JordanLader I want to try latch hook. That is one thing I never did, but my sister and mom loved it.

I agree with you. I love the colors. Pink would also look nice, and I think even a yellow would be pretty.

Pretty soon you'll be sipping through those granny squares like a pro. You're doing very well and I like your color combination

"Victorian" came to mind when I saw the combination. I"m not really sure why, though. Thank You. I want to try a few other variations on the granny square like the mitered square.

It's so soothing, but materials (yarn and the hooks) can be expensive.

Thank You. It needs to be blocked (straightened) but I want to make a lot more of these and either make a scarf or a blanket with it.
