So we finally had a miss with old songs Lori doesn’t know. That’s okay, today’s song will get us back on track. Here’s another great song that many people know, even though they weren’t around half a century ago when this song came out. And if you bought the 45 when it came out, take your senior citizen vitamins with me and sing along, too!
In the Summertime - Mungo Jerry
Interesting trivia: the name of the band came from Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, the T.S. Eliot collection that inspired the play Cats.
Undisputed fact: lead singer Ray Dorset had the best sideburns back then!
An English band (who’s still active), Mungo Jerry had one massive U.S. hit, and this is it. It’s a song that celebrates the carefree time of summer, which explains why it’s one of the first songs everyone goes to on the first day of summer.
Sing along with them, do de doo doo doo!
