I Pooped This Morning

The title is silly. No doubt about that. But it is extremely illustrative of what kind of site this is. And I think those that understand this little tidbit tend to get the most out of this site. It is not a writing site. I think we can well say that has been established over the years. In other words, we call what we post discussions. Not articles. There is a reason for that. Yes, from time to time we may write about some more serious or engaging topics. But, just like in everyday conversations we have with acquaintances or friends, sometimes the discussions become more serious, so will they here from time to time. We are not going to come here looking to find valuable and in depth information about the Mayan ruins. But what I had for lunch might be a topic to chat back and forth about. Or the experience I had when my car broke down and the guy at the service desk was a bit of a jag... Or my cat that got itself caught up in a tree... Or, well... I had a really good poop this morning. Ultimately, the best way (for me) to describe the site is to say it is a social media site. Not a writing site. It is a site meant to engage a back and forth about the day to day menial things in our lives. Our thoughts, our interests, our day to day encounters... It is why short and sweet posts about nothing do so well, and longer posts about the invention of the airplane do so poorly. There is no secret to the certain "success" of certain MyLotters who know exactly what kind of site they are on. And as well, there is no secret to the success of those who actually have a discussion rather than just read, leave a single comment, and never return to the actual "discussion." If you understand the site as a site about everything and about nothing, that's the key here. It's about real people, real lives, real things. Mundane AND spectacular and things in between. It's just us, real people, talking, sharing, and having a little discussion about that. Just my two cents.
