Halfway Through

We have been home for a week! Our mandatory quarantine in halfway. In another short week we will be able to go to the post office, the grocery store, or even for a walk. It's amazing how you miss these everyday activities. We are blessed to have awesome neighbours. They have delivered milk and our mail. When they head into town they call to see if we need anything and then deliver to our door. What more could a person ask? Two and a half weeks ago we made an impulsive, but well thought out trip to visit our children and grandchildren. We knew when we left the province that a mandatory quarantine would be required on our return. The gardens abundance had kept us busy. I've also spent hours in my sewing room. Last week we wanted tortillas for dinner. Google is my friend. I found a recipie and made some delicious tortillas. I may never buy readymade again. Quarantine is a great time to learn new skills.

Did you make some tortillas or merely enjoy some social isolation.

Your neighbors are so kind to do that for you. I'm glad that your quarantine is almost over.

@Morleyhunt I wish everyone would do the same thing you are doing when they go on vacation or away for a while.

@simone10 it's a recommendation for all travellers...in our province it is mandatory. We are permitted to travel within our Atlantic Bubble with out quarantine, but if we leave that bubble then it is required. Stiff fines and possible jail time if we don't comply.

The pleasure of seeing your family far outweighed the inconvenience of quarantine. That's as it should be.

We had to quarantine once we returned from Florida in early May. Our son, who live 1.8 miles from us, was our savior. He cleaned our house before our arrival, grocery shopped for us, and came to visit using a mask and social distancing. We even took walks with him in our neighborhood. Getting the house back in order kept us busy, and we had no complaints. I love homemade tortillas. They are easier than I thought possible!

Our garden has kept us busy. I've made pickles and prepped beans for the freezer.

There is nothing to be gained by being miserable about being quarantined. Hubby and I have spent a lot of time laughing and enjoying our time together,

I read somewhere that if you come out of quarantine without a new skill, then you never lacked time!

I think I must be one of the lucky ones, the quarantine imposed in our neck of the woods was similar to what I was used to anyway so it didn't bother me.

The quarantine isn't so bad. We travelled out of our province...l I'm quite happy to stay at home.

Nice that you got back to visit with your family. I have not considered making home made tortillas, but you've given me something to think about.

@Morleyhunt I saw a recipe on allrecipes for tortillas, I'll have to give it a better look when I have a bit more time, I'm working this morning.

We agonized over the possibility for weeks. Decided not to go. Then the numbers seems to show that our risk was low (if we were cautious). The lack of rain meant the lawn would be fine for a week or two. The garden was almost ready for harvest, but again....we could leave it for a week to fend for itself. We were so glad we took the time to visit our family. The quarantine we are now experiencing was but a small price to pay. I discovered that I can make a lot more than I thought I could....just take some time and follow the dirrections.

As we are both "seniors" we were not allowed to go out our home during 6 weeks from March up to mid April. Those have been 6 hard weeks and what I missed more was going grocery shopping. We had volunteers who came to get our list and go shopping for us.

We spent March and April at home. I made one trip (with extreme caution) to the grocery store. In June we needed to do a bigger shopping trip. It was probably the most stressed I have been the entire pandemic.

Homemade tortilla's are definitely better then those store bought ones, none of those nasty preservatives. Glad your self quarantine is halfway over.

Most of the tortillas I buy don't have preservatives...but mine were just so fresh.

@morleyhunt Lockdown, quarantine has been a really interesting time, so long as you don’t get COVID, and I don’t think my life will be the same after. For others it has been devastating.

There has not been one case on our small community (praise God!), but we are a small community and the median age is probably over 60. Everyone seems to be acting responsibly and using caution. I don't think life will ever be quite the same as before Covid 19. Stay well, stay safe.
