Although I don't think potatoes are known as a vegetable of poor but if we look at its usefulness and average price you can consider it as a veggie of poor at least for Asian countries if not for all countries.
Potatoes can be used in many ways, easy to peel, cook and are mostly cheap but here in India it's now selling at Rs. 40 per kg which is more than half a dollar and that's too high actually considering its taste is not what it used to be.
Do you Like potatoes? Are they very cheap at your place?

YES, here in Switzerland we love potatoes and we have excellent potatoes, several varieties of course because you do not use the same potatoes to make French fries or mashed potatoes. The cost more or less the same as your country, that is very cheap here.

Mmm. I don't really like boiled potatoes. But if the potatoes are fried and dipped in sauce, I won't stop chewing.

There are many griceries that used to be inexpensive but are not anymore. Legumes are now very expensive here so they are not a source of inexpensive protein. And eggs has gone up too.

I love potatoes, prepared any which way. They vary in price here depending on what kind you get. They used to be way cheaper than they are now.

I am not really a big fan of potatoes. But yes just like everything else, potatoes are also getting very expensive. Everything is gettimg so expensive these days. I would really like to see the reduction of prices of all these things that we go out to buy.
