Tense

I was sitting on my couch yesterday, and suddenly I realized how tense I was holding myself. My entire body was tense. I think I do that a lot, and I don't know how to stop. I know there are breathing exercises, and people do meditation, but I don't know that that would help. I guess I let stress get to me. I used to do beginners yoga, so perhaps if I tried again it might make at least a little difference. Does anyone besides me do that a lot?

Deep breathing is very important. I have had those feelings many times in life.

I have in the past. I would notice that my shoulders were hunched up by my ears and the muscles in the back of my neck and shoulders would be tight. I would be clenching my jaw. Besides consciously relaxing, and taking deep breaths, chewing gum helped. Sometimes doing things like wall pushups helped as well.

When I start to feel tense I pray, and put on praise & worship music. Definitely changes my mindset!

I find that I get like that on occasion while I am working, and I do shoulder rolls to relax a bit.

Yoga would probably be great for you. I need to start that again myself.

I do that sometimes also with my hands. I think we all do it and do not realize we are doing it.

I often realize that I am too tense and I also keep my teeth tight close, not very good.

I don't do that, but breathing and yoga should help.

Maybe practice breathing exercises. That should help. I don't know if yoga would help. I haven't done yoga since my oldest was a baby and all it did for me was make me tired. I don't think it was beginner yoga. It was pretty intense.

I do catch myself at time doing the same. I just relax and then relax again till I let go... The chiropractor taught me to do that.

Yes. I find it hard to relax. I don't know what the answer is besides consciously willing your body to relax. Have a great Thursday.

I don't understand the stress part--why? How does being stressful help anything?? Seriously--I learned a long time ago stress is a waste of time and serves 0 purpose!

@AmbiePam I am sorry that is happening to you. I understand that everyone has to find their own way to deal with being tense.
