Good morning myLotters and good evening to you guys on the other side. I have been up since my hubby came back to bed around 3:30 this morning. He couldn't sleep and had been up all night because he couldn't get to sleep. We are doing fine here and just had some heavy rain from an outer band of the hurricane. We will have rain all day and most of tomorrow and also under tornado watch and/or warnings throughout the day. My oldest daughter in Lafayette, LA has checked in and said they are flooded in. I am hoping they don't get water in the house. Their electricity is also out. My daughter in Baton Rogue has checked in and they are fine with no standing water. I'm still waiting to hear from my daughter in Erwinville, LA. I also have not heard from @Deepizzaguy (George) who lives in Lake Charles, LA. I hope and pray they evacuated. Has anyone else heard from him? Photo Credit: NOAA, public © 2020 Karen Gros

@kareng I am glad you are safe from the hurricane. Flooding is not good at all. How long has their electricity been out? I have not seen George on here in a while. I hope he is ok and your other daughter as well.

They were fine. They had a generator to keep the AC on and the refrigerator on.

Did they get that wildfire under control? She said water is going down some now. If the rain will hold off or just be light they should be okay. You can't predict where these outer bands will hit though. We have been lucky here in the country in MS and have missed most of the bad thunderstorms.

I just read a post from him, so I think he's okay. I didn't look at the date though. I'm glad your children are okay and hope your daughter in Erwinville checks in. I called my daughter. She's in Austin. No impact there.

I think that one was posted before the storm hit. Here's a photo of house next door to my daughter in lafayette that she sent this morning. Other daughter in Erwinville is okay!! All 3 accounted for and good for the time being. I'm glad your daughter in Austin didn't have any problems with the storm!

Stay safe! Hurricanes are no joke. We are still rebuilding here at the Jersey Shore after Superstorm Sandy and that was in 2012 I believe.

No, but he was on recently. I think yesterday or the day before. If he evacuated, we might not hear from here for awhile I guess.

Girls are all good right now. Lafayette ones are flooded in. Water is up to their porch. Thank goodness they are in an above the ground house! I posted a pic in comments up above that was taken from their back door.

The entire southern part of the state is without power now. My daughter and family is safe for now. They have water all around house so hoping the rain slacks enough for it to go down there before it gets in her house.

I'm sure there is no power in Lake Charles. My daugher's family is safe for now. They have water up to their porch. Hope the rain holds off so some can drain away before it all starts to rise.

I hope so too. One of the guys I knew from Epinions did not evacuate and they lost their roof. Motor homes tossed over, and lots of trees down and roofs off in Lake Charles.

@moffittjc That is true about the building codes. It's bad and people in that area are begging for help. I heard the Red Cross pulled out of Kinder, LA which is a smaller town that was hit north of Lake Charles. People in Kinder were begging for help. I have a contrator friend who is probably going to head that way this week.

@kareng I've been seeing pictures and video of the devastation. Either all those homes and businesses were not built very well, or this hurricane was more powerful than anticipated. I'm sure it's a combination of both. And I'm sure there are many older structures along the coast that were built before the hurricanes building codes were strengthened.
