Hi all, I'm happy to say momma is back from vacation. And by "vacation" I mean the hospital. Last week Friday, momma was feeling alright as far as I knew and canned up some pickles. By early Sunday afternoon when I came for a visit she was nearly comatose. Gave me an immense scare. She managed to tell me she had a headache, was weak, and even though I didn't want to, you know, pandemic and all.... I made the choice after calling the ER to ask about their procedure for separating Covid and non covid patients, and her Dr. on call... and chose to have her taken to the ER. Good thing I did. She had sepsis from a UTI that had turned into septic shock. I was surprised it went that quickly. She was fairly sick, and was treated with antiobiotics and fluids. Spent a week in the hospital. She's home now and I'm staying with her to make sure she's alright and everything. I think she managed to gain a little weight. I hope we soon take an actual vacation to someplace nice , rather than this sort of holiday. Pixabay photo: from user Grebmot

I'm glad your mom is doing better and is home from the hospital. That is very scary. I hope you can take a nice vacation together sometime.

That turned out great. Considering what could have happened with the virus and all, you really couldn't ask for much more.

@FayeHazel That's the trouble with parents these days, you just can't trust them.

So true. She gave me a good scare and like I told her, I don't really trust her appraisal of "I'm fine" anymore. (She's very stoic like that) But yes I'm happy she's healthy and recovering well.

Yikes! Thank goodness you were there to help take care of matters. My mother passed away from septic shock.

Oh Dianne, I'm so sorry for the loss of your mom, from sepsis too no less. I was really shocked at how fast it seemed to come on for her. It took her from normal to almost comatose in a day and a part. :/

@FayeHazel Thank you! It is a nasty quick killer. I saw my mom on Mother's Day and she was gone that Thursday. I still can't bear to think about it.

I know it's scary for some, to go to drs - especially the hopsitals, but that's one thing they have kept saying around here especially during the beginning of it.. and that's your health comes first then the fear of the virus. so don't be afraid to go get help during it. im glad you made the call and she is better now.

You have a good point. What good is it to stay away, if you risk your health worsening by staying away, like would have been the case if I wouldn't have taken mom in. I so didn't want to... but, thankfully it was the right choice
