Serious movie endings: should they be there or not?

Movies are a means of entertainment. Yet they can be source of conveying powerful message and serious things too. Yet one thought I have : shouldn't there be a discretion in showing very serious things? After spending our days in a life that has so many challenges and unpleasantness, should movies also become something that only have the "realistic" and "serious" angle. One example : The death of Cedric Diggory in thr Harry Potter movie : Goblet of Fire (2005). Was it necessary? Shouldn't it have been shown that he was injured and recovered? Yes the villain was strong and dangerous. Still I found it very saddening. Frankly, movie makers have to be thoughtful. What do you think?

I sometimes think that some tragedies are more powerful if not spelt out blow by blow.

@JudyEv Yes, and perhaps sometimes the way things are shown make more impact than when they are shown in a gradual way. But in this particular movie, I did not like the sad bit in the ending.

Showing too much spoils a good movie, I prefer not seeing some scenes.

@LadyDuck Well, often we have to see a movie in totality. We cannot just skip over some of the scenes. But sometimes we can do that.

@LadyDuck That is good. I mostly watch on Amazon Prime where too, we can skip and move forward.

I agree with you. We go to a movie for entertainment and would not come out of it with a serious thoughts in the mind as we do in our everyday life. Most of Hindi movies are like that. They want to show good ending whatever the case may be. I have not seen the movie you mentioned. I was never the fan of Harry Potter but my daughter was. Shew was even the member of the International fan club.

@msdivkar But now a days, many new Hindi movies too are becoming more realistic and the Entertainment value seems less, except for a few movies.

@msdivkar Yes and that is one of the reasons that I see less of the present lot.

I think artists should be able to show what they please. It’s up to us to decide whether or not we should see them.

@DianneN Well in a way you are right. Yet if sone things become a trend, then it can be a bit frustrating for the viewers.

I have complaint against many movie endings but cannot change it because it's the writers choice

@Butterfingers Well in a way that is true. Yet showing too much of sadness is something that puts one away from certain kind of movies.
