A Harmless Lizard

There are some lizards that can be friendly to us. When I am in the old house, we usually see skink or 'al-alibut.' Of course, some locals are freaking out when seeing them. It is not venomous. So if being bitten, there is no need to worry. I took this photo in my old house before the pandemic. Do you have like this creature at your place? Do you love lizards?

We have what we call skinks here too. They might be a little bit different to yours. Ours are very dark. And very timid.

I agree. It looks quite bigger than ours. I am not sure if how long will this grow.

I thought you will like it. Some locals make it as a pet because it resembles big crocodiles.

I personally think that it is bigger because we have a river in the yard's back. It can have lots of food there, such as insects.

I think it is harmless since someone can hold it in this photo. I heard from some locals that skink can bite if you tried to catch by holding its tail.

That's a big one ! We get lizards but not as big as this guy. They are maybe not more than 5-6 inches (with the tail) . . . we have a few baby ones that hang out near the plants. I am not afraid of them - they are the ones that usually run away so quickly.

@Shavkat Do the big ones run pretty fast too? Maybe this is why we see them doing push ups in the sun . . . they are working out their muscles so they can run super fast .

I am so friendly to them they no longer want to run away from me. I had one which waited patiently for me to open my door. When I did, it bolted its way into my house

Really? They can cook this. I will ask my mother if they do this in Santiago. Actually, I asked my mom how do they call this and she claimed to 'al-alibut.'

I agree. They do have a special diet with insects. That's why we do not need to terminate them.
