White Sand Beach or Coronavirus

I really cannot understand why the local government is allowing this activity. The incidence of coronavirus is still escalating and they organized this in Manila Bay, Philippines. They showed the white sand of Manila Bay's beach for the first time. After this activity, there is some news that social distancing was not carried out successfully. The budget for this project is being questioned, too. Instead of using the money related to coronavirus, they squandered this money for this. Guess what? They burned 398 M pesos. Are they thinking or not?
Pictures of the throng caught the attention and ire of netizens after noticing that most of the visitors were not practicing physical distancing.

I totally agree with you. The government are telling people they do not have budget for covid and yet they have money for this infrastructure that for now will not benefit the tourism since tourism is not yet in full swing. what is happening???

This is how they deceive us and the local people. There are other issues that came out and they need to solve this, such as the PhilHealth scandal.

@Shavkat true. they divert attention of people. The budget here can easily be given to the covid related projects but no, of course they will first prioritize this

Honestly, I was disappointed when I have read about it. They should have used the money for more important things.

Totally agree. Instead of using it to improve other land and waterforms, they wasted it for that sand. Sigh

I believe that the government didn’t ‘burn’ that much for nothing. And the budget for that project was included in the 2020 national budget which was approved in 2019. As per budget rules, if it is a line item, the money can only be spent for that specific purpose. And frankly as a Filipino from Mindanao, we’d be happy if we’d be poured that much here.

If it was, then it needs to be carried out. The concern is the safety of the people who flocked into this area. In my opinion, this project can be delayed or canceled since the local government needs to allocate the funds.

@sol_cee It is not a road though in Manila. I am sure other infrastructures should be prioritized like the roads that you had mentioned.

@Shavkat in our place, our cemented roads aren’t finished because construction was stopped due to covid. When it rains, the muddy road makes you wanna weep. People in Manila should be thankful that that project was pushed thru despite the pandemic.

It is a bad thing that they are not thinking at all. I felt bad because they have the opening of this area despite this pandemic.

It is not really good. I cannot understand why. Even if they wear face masks and shields, it cannot be guaranteed that will be safe.
