We are headed into a long weekend. We are off next Monday for some reason. Teachers may have meetings or something. We actually have not had a normal routine at school yet. I am going to do my best to really enjoy being at home. All the testing for the beginning of the year is over. Of the first three days, two were testing days. Of the second week, three were testing days. Of this, the third week, three were testing days. Next week, no Monday. Then we can work on routines.

These were not medical tests but standardized achievement tests. It is normal to have them every year.

I think no one right now has a normal routine due to the pandemic.

This is also true. We are about three weeks behind on our "normal".

@LadyDuck Some around here closed again, but only temporarily. The parents here had an option of remote school. The teachers feel like they are juggling everything to include everyone, plus wash hands every hour, wear masks, eat at desks, stay socially distant from all other classes.

@GardenGerty Many schools in Europe reopened, but they had to close again after a few days because of many Covid cases.

We will, and then it will be Halloween. With a full moon and a time change.

@GardenGerty I wish they would leave the time alone. It just messes everyone up.

Technically nothing is ever normal for me. My two bus students are autistic. One in the afternoon has CP. My main students during the day are very high functioning, but also autistic, with tons of anxiety. I think their emotions and mood swings burn a lot of my energy.

Would that mean you would work, or that you would have some time off?

What is being tested, aside from your patience?

It seems like it is basically the same stuff in all the different tests. Reading levels, math proficiency, understanding and use of grammar and punctuation, etc. Three different tests with three different "alphabet" names. The patience and endurance of the kids is being tested, that is for sure.

The students are taking standardized tests on their computers. It sometimes lasts for a couple of hours. Having to do these tests meant that other learning was put on hold.

You may be off for Yom Kippur. It’s the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur. But you probably don’t have many Jewish people in your state.

Often we may be off on a holiday, but instead it is just listed as "Professional Development". In my small little towns I have lived in I have known less than a handful of Jewish people. I have known more of people who declare themselves to be Messianic Jews who keep the Hebrew traditions, while practicing a belief in Christ. Often we are off on Columbus Day, which is called something else, and on Martin Luther King Day.
