Last week everyone was crowing about four out of five National League Central teams being in the playoffs. Today, there are NO NL Central teams left. They went 1-8 in the first round, and I don’t know if anyone other than the Cardinals even scored. Oh baby! Speaking of baby, here’s another classic tune with “baby” in the title. Obviously not the same Barbara Lewis, though!! (@TheHorse will be pleased with the Prine reference.) The things I learn in doing these countdowns. If you’re old enough you may remember a #1 1975 disco instrumental called “The Hustle,” by Van McCoy. Well, McCoy wrote this song. According to Picky Wedia, Lewis said that McCoy wrote it specifically for her, too. Here’s something else that’s in Wikipedia: Barbara Lewis had dinner with Sharon Tate just hours before the Manson family murdered Tate in August 1969. Lots of other people have covered this, but when you think of this song, it’s that lovely Barbara Lewis original that comes to mind.
