Rainy days and Mondays, as the Carpenters sang. How about a rainy Monday with bluegrass? As they run away, screaming, pulling their hair out (and that’s just the Martians! ), I present to you today’s song with “baby” in the title! Rollin’ in My Sweet Baby’s Arms - Buck Owens Wait, didn’t I say bluegrass? So what’s Buck Owens doing here? There was something that happened in the early 70s. I guess you could blame/credit Bill Monroe’s induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Whatever, at that time people were lining up to do bluegrass albums. Heck, Danny Davis and the Nashville Brass did a “bluegrass” album! (Well, I guess a trumpet qualifies as an “acoustic instrument,” given that it needs no amplification! ) While Buck Owens’ stab at bluegrass wasn’t all that authentic, he did at least have the fiddling talents of Dangerous Don Rich, who wasn’t just a killer guitarist. (He was also a serious schoolgirl crush for me! ) He definitely had the tempo of the song down! And, true to form, Rich just blew the walls down with the fiddle break. One of my favorite songs to exercise to. I’m usually exhausted from exercising by the time this two-minute song finishes, though. Oh, no! You don’t like this!? I’ll have to go jump off a bridge!!!!! When I was a teenager I bought a few albums that “everybody else” thought were “great.” I was disappointed every time. That’s why there’s so much different music: so many different music tastes!

@FourWalls Don't jump off any bridges because of me! Do it because of someone else! You have a wide and varied love of music. I grew up with jazz, rock 'n roll, and classical music. HOWEVER, if I were in a club with a drink on the table, I could love everything. Don't laugh. It's true. I just wouldn't go out of my way to buy this or play it if I had it.

It’s been recorded a billion times, at least. I think I have six different versions (Buck, Rose Maddox, Flatt & Scuggs, Bill Monroe, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and a local bluegrass band).

Nah Another gaping gap in my knowledge. Never heard of Buck Owens. Dangerous Don Rich, must look him up and see what the schoolgirl crush was based on.

Here’s a clip with a rather interesting title featuring Don on lead.
Donald Eugene Ulrich, best known by the stage name Don Rich (August 15, 1941 - July 17, 1974) was a country musician who helped develop the Bakersfield sound...
