The long and short of it

It was about four feet long.
What was about four feet long?
The rat snake was about four feet long, and it was in my front yard.
Pointed towards the vacant house on the next property.
Mickey was there.
The snake would not move. It just lay in my yard all stretched out long.
It was long, until my son tried to pick it up by its tail. Then it whipped around and kind of coiled.
We made Mickey and Tink come in. We came in. The snake went next door to the vacant house. I am sure there are lots of rats there.
We have a cold front blowing in tonight. I am sure the snake wanted a place to be out of the wind.
I am cautious of snakes, respectful of snakes, but not really afraid of snakes.
We made Mickey and Tink come in, then the snake disappeared.

I have not had any venomous snakes. I do notice this year some of my photographer friends are finding a lot of them. Posting to Facebook.

@crazyhorseladycx No, this friend and her husband go driving around looking for interesting and attractive things to take pictures. She also posts pictures of plants, flowers, turtles, toads, waterfoul, you name it.

I have seen them occasionally crossing the road, toward this empty/abandoned house, and in my back property. I have not seen any mice or rats.

Kansas, where I live, only has maybe three poisonous snakes. This was not one of the three, but I had no reason to touch it. It just wanted shelter anyway. People I talk to are seeing a lot of snakes lately.

I leave most alone here too. They can be very helpful.
