Back seat cook

I know you've heard of the term "back seat driver"... well, my husband is often a back seat cook. Bear in mind, ever since we've gotten together, I do all of the cooking. He makes his sales of course and he'll cut things for me, but I'm the one that does the cooking. However, he loves to add his own two cents sometimes. Or seems surprised when I tell him I can get this done in x amount of time. In a sense, it annoys me, but sometimes it's funny. He'll complain before I even start about something, telling me what to do (or not to do), then praise me after the meal is complete.

He praises you and your meal in the end so that speaks for something! I know men in general can be annoying!

I know! I married him anyway, though. Tonight he couldn't decide what he wanted, so I made frozen dinners in the microwave. My back was killing me, so that was okay with me.

That’s awesome he loves your cooking so much though. My husband is the better cook. I think I’m a good cook too but he knows what he is doing more creativity wise and knows how to make a lot more things then I do since he eats meat.

@kaylachan . I have to follow recipes then I customize them more the next time I make the recipe.

That's how I started. If I make a hamburger helper, I still reference the directions on the box. Still comes out good.@shaggin

My husband's idea of cooking, low and slow while dumping random things together and hope it tastes good.

Great patience on your part. His back seat advice must increase your cooking time as you answer his questions. Thankfully, he knows his place when it's time to eat. You cook he eats

It can if I allow myself to get distracted. If I have to turn my back on food, and it burns as a result, he complains. Then I remind him, well, if you didn't distract me... I wouldn't have burned it. Our stove gets real hot even on low' (we have a glass cooktop stove).

@dgobucks226 We rarely have leftovers, because we buy enough to split between the two of us. The only time we really do is if I do our special beaf tip tortilline or the rare occasion we order delivery from one of our favorite mom and pop restaurants.

@kaylachan Yes, cooking requires your complete attention. If not you might be doing takeout or leftovers.

There is another saying that there are "too many cooks in the kitchen." Thanksgiving is always a hoot because there are sooo many cooks in the kitchen, we all toss in our two cents and critique and whatever else. It actually makes a for a good time.

When I was growing up, Thanksgiving was like that. Nowadays, it's just my husband and me. So it's usually a normal Thursday.

@kaylachan It sounds very typical. Maybe you should let him make the meal one day and see how he does?
