A Mustang named Sally

I have been slowly but surely working most of the summer on cleaning out my mom's garage. Or rather one stall of it. My dad, before he passed away , was a collector of a great many things. Or a hoarder. Depends how you look at it. Some of the items he kept were junk (dried up bottles of glue, old catalogues, dried up furniture oil, broken tools, etc) but most of the items are useful - even if mom and myself can't and won't use 4 dozen mini saw blades, 50 wrenches, 85 screwdrivers... alright alright, you get the point the numbers are made up but it's sort of the situation. Lots of different items in boxes together, it's taken a lot of organizing and I've only done 1/2 the garage . But, no matter, because the collector car that has been in storage can come and be in the garage now and my mom can save the storage $$$. The Mustang was my dad's impulse purchase when he was in the throes of dementia. While it is cute, teal and a convertible ... it isn't practical for either my mom and I - it will be for sale shortly , actually make that spring since convertibles don't tend to sell too well in winter here lol Photo: Pixabay

Well, if you don't think it's necessary to have a car like then sell it. I'm sure there are some people willing to buy it.

Ah yes, in this climate especially as it's a convertible it is a high performance "fun" car. Nice for those who like it though :-)

I'm sure you will get a solid price for that Mustang convertible. Spring is the best time to sell it.

@FayeHazel I would definitely keep it. Nothing better than zipping around in a convertible. We have a Mercedes SL5?? AMG, our second. We had larger Mercedes convertibles, too. We love luxury cars. We began buying convertibles just after our 2nd son was born. They are only meant as 3rd cars.

@DianneN I don't mind that idea for her. It is a cute little car and very much so her sized. I've usually had Cadillacs myself ... (exceptions being an Oldsmobile and a Mercury) and I usually keep 2 cars. Between us now we have 6 vehicles (5 cars, 1 motorcycle) pity neither of us know how to use the cycle. But yeah! She goes back and forth on keeping the convertible so I say.... we gotta take it out at least once with the top down before making up our minds lol

Hopefully, you can keep it up and running or get it up and running before selling it. Don't know if you'll find a buyer who wants a non-functioning car.

@FayeHazel I didn't mean to confuse you. I was asking if it works, and if it didn't did you plan to fix it so It does. But if it works, then you should get a good sale for it.

@kaylachan Oh it's ok - we figured it out. Oh yeah - it works well. A car for "fun" just not the most practical thing

Thanks. I'm confused though. It runs fine. It was in storage because up until recently we didn't have room for it here.

It's good that a lot of your dad's stuff is usable, and the car sounds great.

Ah yes, I remind myself of that when I'm dealing with it. At least it's useful. It's a fun car, I drove it yesterday to put gas in it

I'm sure it's a good feeling to get the garage even partly organised and to be able to store the Mustang there. I hope you get a good price for it when you come to sell it.

Thanks, sometimes it feels like I barely did anything, but then I try to think about that.

Hope you find a buyer, and I am sure you will, and find good use for the money it generates. Not sure what it will fetch since you provided few details on year and make and whatnot other than it was a Mustang. But hopefully it fetches a good enough penny that you can have a little bit of fun with the proceeds.

Thanks! Mom is hoping to take the money from the sale and buy a newer (more practical) car. It's a 1992 - GT 5.0 L with 32,k actual miles. It has never seen snow so the inside and outside are like new. It is also a convertible.

I hope your mom is able to get a good price for it when she sells it. That definitely sounds like hoarding. Many of those things you can probably sell too once you get them all organized since you both have no use for them like the 85 screwdrivers lol. Those also are great items to sell at yard sales. Men love stopping to look for tools.

Thanks! We appreciate that. Ah yes. Dad - when he liked things he bought them in excess , especially if he thought it was a good deal. Thanks! I think we got a buyer for some of the tools. :-) Oh yes! Good thought there - have something for the men folks to look at :-)

If it's not practical to keep, might as well sell it. Someone might take care of it better as well. When my dad passed away, I also sell lots of his stuff. Or at least donate them. I don't want them to rot or ruin because I didn't take care of them properly.

Ah yes, alas it is more of a car for fun... good for those that have that desire,... but for our purpose not practical. Sorry for your loss. It's hard to do, but you're right. The excess "stuff" if you can't use it best to be used elsewhere. We are in the process of selling/donating/or discarding
