They Were Fooled (True Story)

Some men were talking in the pub, the subject turned to wives how they could make men miserable or enhance their lives, my husband said "mine's got her faults, I tell you I don't jest but of the things she makes for me her Irish coffee's best". The upshot was when he came home he had some friends in tow he'd brought them so that I could prove that what he said was so, they laughed and joked and fooled around, were quite intoxicated I thought I'd better humour them, made coffee as they waited. Now Irish coffee has to have some Irish whiskey in it brown sugar, coffee, topped with cream, not one of those omit but I left out (on purpose, yes ) the thing that makes it special that coffee had no whiskey in, for Irish that's essential. They raved about it and agreed 'twas as my man had stated my Irish coffee was indeed the best they'd ever tasted. This goes to show with too much booze you won't be compos mentis and though you think you're on the ball you may have lost your senses.

Oh my gosh that is hysterical ! I wonder if you had put in hot pepper sauce or the like and it'd still be the best Irish coffee they've ever tasted .

@jaboUK You could have put in any number of "secret" ingredients and it'd still be the best .

Yes, it was funny. I notice you spell it 'whisky' which is how we spell it in England. I thought it was 'whiskey' to you Americans (and the Irish) which is why I spelt it as I did.

@jaboUK It was a mistake on my part. I would have normally spelled it with an e.

Very funny. They have not noticed the lacking of whiskey. I have tasted Irish coffee once and my heart beat so fast.

I can make it but I've never actually tasted it myself. I don't like coffee and I don't like whiskey.

I saw Irish creme coffee at a store yesterday and debated on getting it to try. I already have 3 other bags of coffee so I decided not to have it. Today I’m kicking myself wishing I had just bought it as I’ve never seen that flavor before.

I didn't know you could get it pre-packaged. After all it's only ordinary coffee with whiskey added.

I love Irish Coffee, but with a bit of Irish whisky in it, not a lot, just a little bit. In the United States they serve the Irish coffee topped with "whipped cream" () and with mint syrup on top (because it's Irish), it's horrible, really horrible!

They must have drunk too much. You are ,without doubt,a good hand at making Irish coffee, the reason why you omitted on purpose the whiskey is that you knew it would be the last straw for them.
