"God bless you," is not synonymous with getting monetary wealth.

We bid each other "God bless you." What does the blessing mean?
Many mistake it as wishing one richness in terms of having abundance of money. Our Lord Jesus, however, taught us otherwise.
The Gospel today goes:
"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you (falsely) because of me.
This is the Beatitudes, the meaning of what it is to be blessed.
So, how could the poor be blessed? And one who grieves? How could the hungry be satiated? And the persecuted have the kingdom of heaven? Aren't these misfortune?
Nope, not at all. The Beatitudes are the blessed attitudes as shown by our Lord's perfect example of being Man. He was born poor in a manger. He grieved because he loved us. Our Lord multiplied the bread and fish for the multitude who crowded around Him. And for all of His teachings of love and the Kingdom of God, He was persecuted and nailed to the cross.
When we bid each other blessings, we are telling others, and wishing them to be like our Lord Jesus Christ.

Filipinos are known to exaggerate, we even say 'God bless you more and more.' And that usually means more money, a house and lot, a car, a fat bank account, a lifestyle, and travel tickets to prime destinations round the world.
I do give my blessings often, especially to the young people, but when I do so, I ask God to protect them and give them a good life so that they may be able to glorify God by serving others. That presupposes the food on the table, the clothes on one's back, a shelter from the storm. I tell God to bless them with these so they could serve Him to the best of their ability.

@eileenleyva In Italy we do not use a lot the phrase "God bless you", it's more an American things, I have seen this phrase often written at the bottom of professional letters. I found this weird.

@MALUSE I found unprofessional to write a phrase like that, they do not even know if they are addressing the letter to someone who is an Atheist or Agnostic.
Italians never talk about religion, it's something personal, it's something that should not be "spread like jam", there are the Priests and the Churches where to discuss religion.

I always see blessing someone as my way of speaking to the Lord and letting him know I think this person deserves a blessing and letting him decide what that will be.
I know people (in general) tend to only feel blessed if it is a monetary blessing as in money. But blessings come in all shapes and sizes.

@MALUSE
I myself am not particularly religious but I do lean toward being spiritual and making an effort to accommodate whatever another believes. So when I speak/type I use language that is generally understood by all without going into boring details about my own personal preferences.

Although blessings in material abundance is part and parcel of it but it is not a priority in the blessings that are showered by our Creator. As there are many other things that we should be aware of not just material blessings but others that are much important than it.

@eileenleyva I believe that blessings are not just about money and wealth. It's good health and good people too.
