Back from jury duty but it’s not over yet

The photos have nothing to do with the discussion but are from the endurance ride that we attended recently. I had to drive in to our nearest city, Bunbury, Western Australia, this morning to report for jury duty. The car park I had in mind didn’t seem to allow for all-day parking which flustered me a bit. There were many like me with bits of paper in hand and trying to make sense of the parking meters. As it turned out, everyone got sent home. We all have to go back on Thursday and be prepared for a six-day trial if we are picked for the jury. Thankfully I don’t have anything else planned which is probably a good thing. And with luck they won't want me. Jurors need to be under 75 so I unfortunatey scrape in by six months.

I'm glad you were sent home and hope you don't get picked when you go back. I sat on a jury last year I think. I enjoyed it. It was a two-day trial.

ugh, i feel fer ya, hon. the parkin' 'round our courthouse aint very 'xpansive 'n whilst no parkin' meters, when i went fer mine i'd the need to park 'bout 5 blocks 'way. jest to get near the same. there fer less'n 20 minutes the first day, all sent home. took way longer to find a spot to park 'n walk o'er. a 6 day trial? i dunno how they do yer selections there, but can be'n all day process 'em pickin' jurors fer such. the hubs'd the need fer 3 days 'f goin' whilst such went'n. lots 'f arguin' 'twixt both sides's to whom they deemed suitable fer the task. nah, he didn't get chosen, lol.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they reject me too. They call in a lot of people just to get their twelve men.

@crazyhorseladycx No, sorry, I meant their twelve jury members. They probably have to have a token woman or two in the mix but I don't know that for sure. lol

@JudyEv wow, you don't look 75 at all! If that profile picture is your real picture, that is. For a 75 years old, you're very energetic too. Even went riding a horse yesterday. You rock

@prinzcy Thanks for the compliments. I didn't ride. I just took photos at the ride. I used to ride when I was younger. The photo was taken earlier this year. It hasn't been touched up.

@JudyEv With enough acting, you might could pull off the eccentric part, but never the old woman part.

@1creekgirl Thanks for the kind words, Vicki. Another nine months and I'll be too old to be called up for jury duty.

Two years ago, I got to do that. I did not believe I would be chosen, I've been in law school and most lawyers don't want someone who actually understands the laws to be sitting in the jury box. But to my surprise, I was chosen. A woman on the same jury was actually a retired law school professor. I suppose because of the sparse population here, they take anyone breathing and in fairly good health. Hmm, that sounds like the military... It was an interesting four days. Not much in the way of fun and those chairs got very uncomfortable by the second day. I ended up standing most of the third and fourth days. (I cleared it with the clerk first). Good luck with it.

Thanks. I hope I don't get tied up for six days. I would find that very tiring on my back. I'm not sure what the chairs will be like. Maybe if they are too comfortable people go to sleep. lol

@JudyEv Most of these things have interesting parts. Personally, I love watching people, I always have. The courtroom gave me a chance to see something I had never seen before. It has always amazed me how some people will try to bend reality to rationalize their way into making it okay for their having done something incredibly stupid.

@judyev Pain. My father was called for jury duty last year - he was well past the age for being excused at 88 but wanted to do his civic duty. I dissuaded him because although he would have enjoyed a few days out he can’t hear well and anyway he would have given everyone the benefit of the doubt no matter how villainous they were proved to be. Hope you get not called - 6 days is a lot of days.

Yes, I'm hoping I'll miss out too. At least I know now where I need to park. Another six months and I'll be too old to be picked too. Maybe I could protest because of my hearing too. lol
