Discoveries. Ancient relics. Scriptures. Books from an ancient time. All these could be fascinating for some, and some end up having a career around these things. Yet, what if one goes a bit too far and actually unearths a hidden mystery that is perhaps thousands of years old? Well, this is something that is so brilliantly illustrated in the 1999 Fantasy Action adventure movie, with some horror effects- Mummy. Brendan Fraser is great in his acting and some comic timing. I read that his role was initially offered to Tom Cruise and then Ben Affleck, yet both refused. Anyways it was a good movie watch. I would suggest not to show it to kids below 12 years of age as it has some pretty violent and scary scenes. Movie watched on Amazon Prime India, and some points for review looked up on Wikipedia.

I remember going out with my friends at college back then and watching it in PVR. PVR was the new set up back then and was considered posh. I was in my final year of post graduation then and a movie ( that too English) in PVR was something to show off.

@arunima25 Yes watching movies in PVR Priya and later PVR Saket made one feel like an elite, and later Satyam Cineplex as well. Those were very different times !! (late 1990s).

@arunima25 Oh I hope you did not wear Kurta with Jeans in JNU? Or support Socialist agendas?

@arunima25 Yes I understand. Last year I started a discussion here with no political ideologies in mind. Yet I was startled by a few who thought of themselves as champions of Secularism ! And people of two opposing ideologies were almost calling names and arguing so badly. If those two people had met face to face, they could even had started a big fight physically!!

I have this movie in DVD and I watched when it was released, not a movie that I re-watched.

Really? Tom Cruise starred The Mummy in 2017, a reboot of the Mummy franchise

@sol_cee Yes I watched the Tom Cruise movie too. That was much more darker and with very little fun element.

I remember that movie! Very good one and yes Brendan Fraser did an excellent job of creating a character you liked. Rachel Weisz, as the female lead and (did you know she is the wife of Daniel Craig, who played James Bond) had really good chemistry with Fraser.

The first Mummy? Before the characters got married? It was a good movie. I enjoy it more compared to the other three. Or do they have four of it. I can't remember.

@prinzcy Yes before the two main characters- Evelyn and Rick O' Connell got married. There were two sequels to this movie. I saw The Mummy Returns (2001).

@DianneN I remember the time of October 1999. I saw Billboards and posters of this movie. It was released around that time in India. It looked a kind of ghostly and scary movie, so I kind of avoided it. However, I saw it two years later on TV and now again last week. I liked the mystery and the adventure element.
